Did you know that when you pay a debt that has already showed up negative on your credit report, the credit bureaus will only update the negative inquiry as paid? They won't remove it nor will they report it as a positive inquiry. The only reason they removed the chase bank inquiry is because you disputed it stating that it was inaccurate. When you pay a debt on your credit, you are telling the credit bureaus that this is my debt and I am paying it. After you pay it, it will show as being paid but still will count as a negative inquiry on your report. You should have just disputed it like you did the chase account and not paid anything. Although you paid this debt, when creditors pull your report and look at your score, it still is going to look bad. So then you ask, "What's the point of paying if they are not going to remove it?" The answer is, "So that AT&T can get their money!" By paying this debt, you have not improved your credit. You should purchase a book that helped me called "Credit Lifeline" by Pearl Polto. She will walk you through how to clear your credit step by step. The first rule is not to pay anything! Just dispute!

They are not required to put up corrections within any specific time limit. If they have revised info from a credit card company they will get around to it, but in their own sweet time. And sometimes the credit card companies are not very fast at telling them anyway. The only requirement is that if you dispute something the credit card company has to investigate it within three months. But the law doesn't say anything about them hurrying back to the credit bureaus with the update.

On a paid item it takes 45 days. Your credit report updates between the 1st and 10th of the month. As far s removing it from your credit report it will takes 7-10 years for it to be removed. You can also pay a credit repair company to try to get it removed from your credit report. A good one generally charges $500 for their services, and it takes between 30-180 days depending on how bad your report is.

Your friend was right normally it takes 3 months, however if you dispute the item then by law the credit agency will report the dispute to the issuer, who then report that you have made payment, the reporting agency will then update your records sooner. When doing this you should contact all 3 agencies so that it is updated on all three reports at the same time.

ask AT&T for the letter stating that you pay what you owe them and that your ballance is $0, and this way you can send this letter to 3 credit agencies and make them correct the info in 24 hours. you don't know how often AT&T update this info with credit agencies and if they send new info to all of them.
