My son likes the food they serve. ( He's in Kindergarten )
But we do have the school menu, and every once in a while there's days that he'd rather take a lunch than eat what's on the menu.
A typical lunch for him would be:
turkey sandwich w/cheese and mayo, a pack of cheese crackers, or those little bread stick dealies w/dipping cheese, an apple or some fruit snacks, and a Hi-C flashing fruit punch juice box.

I give him a choice. He is allowed to buy the school lunch once a week. The other 4 days I pack a lunch. Usually PB&J or some kind of lunch meat like turkey or bologna. For a snack he will get a piece of fruit and a pack of cheese crackers or whatever snack stuff we have in the house at the time.
I am against those fruit snacks b/c they are very bad for the teeth.

We let our daughter get hot lunch once time a week for fun. the other days I pack her a lunch. She usually has a mini-bagel and cream cheese, a fruit cup or piece of fresh fruit, and some kind of treat like a gogurt, pudding, or a couple cookies. She doesn't drink much but I include a water bottle just in case. She is 7.

My son is very picky and usually takes his lunch. A couple of times a month he'll eat the school lunch.

cheese and crackers with grapes
bagels with cream cheese with chips
soup in a thermos with crackers
cereal with milk and yogurt
Lunchables
cottage cheese and crackers or chips

My daughter is a good eater and I look forward to the things I'll be able to send for her next year. (She's in 1/2 day KG right now so she eats lunch at home still.)

salami sandwiches
turkey sandwiches
turkey rolled up in a tortilla
carrots and celery with cottage cheese
tuna sandwiches
apples or bananas with yogurt
hot dogs
taquitos

My kids ate the school food. Sure there were some days they just did not want what was on the menu, but all in all it is a good idea to eat school food. It lets your kids experience different foods that they may not get anywhere else and if they are hungry, it teaches them not to be so picky. One good thing, at my kids school they would have to empty their own tray after they ate. My kids would eat everything on their tray because they hated the smell of the garbage and wanted to just slide their empty tray on the belt. They both have really good eating habits and I owe that to a balanced school lunch.

I don't have any kids, but I pack a lunch everyday for myself. I pack the crackers that have cheese and I cut up some lunch meat into little squares to put on the crackers. I also pack the 4 oz. bowls of applesauce, a granola bar, fruit juice, and green tea.

I pack sandwiches mostly. I try to mix up what's in them. PB&J, ham, turkey, sometimes even left over chicken or roast beef. I also usually include celery and/or carrot sticks, or other vegetables and a piece of fruit. I like sending homemade muffins, granola bars or other snacks for recess too. Juice boxes are very handy too.

My daughter is older now and now I send salads or soups that need heating up. You can pack the salad dressing in a small separate container... keeps the vegetables crisp.

I %. a sort of issues daily for my son. He oftentimes brings a number of it lower back domicile lower back, yet he's so picky I discern it quite is greater desirable for him to have too lots then no longer sufficient. I oftentimes %. him ham and cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, raviolis, spaghettios and meatballs, or noodles for lunch. at the instant he basically needs sandwiches so i bought a sandwhich field, which become an extremely reliable investment for basically $a million.50. it quite is washing device-friendly and retains his sandwiches from getting smushed. Then I %. him some style of fruit, the two clean or canned, a cereal bar or dry cereal, pretzels, crackers, or something like that. I oftentimes %. him his meal (ex: sandwich) and then 3-4 snacks to boot, plus a juice container and water.

Usually, a sandwich (either PB&J or turkey and cheese), fruit, gogurt, 100% Juice, carrot sticks with ranch, and a treat...usually a granola bar, pudding, or a couple cookies.

I also have thermoses to put either soup or something like mac and cheese in for when the weather starts to get a bit cooler.
