Especially if they are married and have to take care of him also. I'm not talking about ALL new mothers. But I see these women in the mall and grocery stores and they have gained what apears to be substantial amounts of weight. There must be a reason for this besides eating.

Pick one or more reasons from the list. All can be valid:
(1) Pregnancy can really screw with your hormones and make it harder to lose weight.
(2) Taking care of a baby is time consuming drudgery. New Moms frequently eat any food they can find. Most food that's easy to grab is junk food.
(3) Many new moms don't like sex because touching a baby all day long kind of makes them want to be left alone.
(4) Stay at home Moms don't have the time or money to go to the gym and tighten up.
(5) Working Moms feels guilty about working and don't have the time to go to the gym and tighten up.
(6) New Moms first thought when they get a minute is for sleep not working out or fixing low fat food.
(7) People naturally age and whether or not they are pregnant, as people age, the weight is harder to keep off.

A womans body changes from being pregnant...hormones change along with other things like metabolism and thyroid sometimes too. Most people that don't lose their "baby fat" is because of a lack of taking care of themselves the way they once did because of being exhausted from motherhood. Good sleep is a major factor in keeping fit, and for the first year or more good sleep is not in a new mothers vocabulary. Also, people that didn't have weight problems before gaining pregnancy weight don't change their diets after giving birth, and without going on a diet, eating the same as before will only maintain the baby fat that was gained, instead of losing it.

I havent really heard this. Most women I know lose the weight or just keep on the baby fat that they put on while pregnant. They dont gain more weight. If you gain 30 pounds when your pregnant , you will not lose it all as soon as you have the baby and some of those women have a harder time losing the rest of it than others. Depends on the womans metabolism. Im 5'10 and was 150 when I had my first. I gained like 50 pounds and lost it all except for 10. I was 160 then and 2 years later had my second son. Every time I seemed to keep 10 pounds on and it gets harder as you get older to lose the weight.

I have three children 5 and under (the middle one was an 11lbs 1oz c-section obviusly) and I look like a teenager. All I did was stop eating like I did when I was pregnant and try to take a walk. If I can do after gaing 65lbs during a pregnancy I can't see why others can't. Plus I could't afford to buy new clothes after baby I had to fit into my old waredrobe.

Almost all gain about 20 to 30 pounds ... the difference is that after the baby is born, some women excersise off the baby fat that is left behind and others don't bother with it as quickly. It is just personal preference and amount of time they have to devote to the baby .. husband .. etc.. and find the time to excersise. It isn't easy. Good Luck ! :)

I don't know but I am one of those moms I only gained 12 pounds during my pregnancy and then exploded after I gave birth. I don't eat great I am not eating junk food or anything but I definitely don't eat well. I eat whats left off my kids plate or have whatever is fast and easy usually bananas and apples. But I rarely sit down and eat a balanced meal.

Yes, I wonder the same thing. In fact, I was just talking to my Mom about this topic.

It must be the new mom's metabolism. I did not gain or lose a single pound after the birth of my twin girls.

I am back at the weight I was at before my pregnancy:113.

Hope this helps you..
