what is ironic is christians nowadays disgrace the name of christ

The guy above me has it right. Nobody is tolerant of everyone/everything. Everyone has some intolerance.
Now as far as the Christian faith, no, because certain things are absolutely and clearly in violation of Christ's teachings, and because the religion is based upon the values that Christ taught, why would they?
As far as people in other religions, the idea is the same. No one is tolerant of everyone. I do believe, however, that we should be more Christ-like in accepting those around us and putting our own opinions aside in order to help those around us feel the love of Christ--and our love. You're right, there are far too many of us who are jerks because someone isn't Christian and treat them as though they are nothing. That's not right, but it is human nature. I'm not excusing it, because as a Christian, I am completely guilty of intolerance, but I do try my hardest to love all of those around us because that's what Christ taught.

Christians should love everyone, but that is not the same as tolerance. To love is to grace others with charity, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, etc. To tolerate one's actions is to allow them to live life their own way even if it is not in accordance with your personal convictions. The Bible clearly teaches to spread the Word to everyone, so tolerance is not advocated.

It becomes confusing because it is hard not to tolerate one's actions but also not judge them for their actions.

Everyone in here has missed the point...

Christianity is NOT about tolerance; it is about taking on the character of God, through His son Jesus Christ as our example, and conforming our character to His...

People seem to confuse the meanings of love and tolerance. A perfect example of this is the subject of homosexuality. In Leviticus 18:22 it states "mankind shall not lie down with mankind, nor womankind with womankind". The reason this is so is because God created woman for man. Therefore, in the eyes of God, same-sex marriage is a mockery (so is heterosexual lust) and an abomination. Where people get confused is that God still loves them, and we as Christians are commanded to love them as does God. However, we are not to condone their lifestyle nor their behavior, nor does this mean that we are to confront them on this behavior (unless done by quoting scriptures), for even though forgiven, we will all still fall short; if those of us who truly claim to be Christians would take on The Mind of Christ as it has been given to us through the discernment of the Holy Spirit, there would be no need for such discussions. God loved man enough to grant him free will, and what man did with it cost Him the death of His Son...

Was Jesus tolerant to the Pharisees and the Sadducees? That would be a resounding "NO"; He was here to demonstrate the Gift of God...

The best way to answer any such questions was even stated by the late movie mogul Louis B. Mayer when he explained, "The greatest screenplay ever written was done by a consortium of men with one great truth; it is called 'The Bible'..." (he also once referred to The Bible as "the owner's manual of human existence", and we know of the stories of his great accomplishments, as well as his downfalls)...

I think Jesus covered this one when he said that it was easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it would be for a rich man to inherit the kingdom of God. So it goes that the same camel would have an easier time passing through the eye of that needle than it would be for Christians to be tolerant to ANYONE.

This is for every religious question here in Yahoo Answers!

Why do you persist?

Religion does nothing but divide humanity.

It this what you want? To divide human beings?

If religion is so wonderful, any religion, why don't you find a
way to unite all human beings?

What the hell or heaven is wrong with souls who embrace
some raging religion and hate others because they don't believe
what you do?

I am not insulting anyone who believes they are religious.

I just want to know why religion of any sort is so cold, so
selfish, so angry!

Every soul who is on this planet is trying to do the best
they can. Every soul who is on this planet wants to live,
to love, and to be safe!

If the god you believe in is so wonderful why don't you show
the rest of us the truth of it?

If any Christian can see himself as he really is, and can tolerate himself, he can tolerate anyone. If any person sees himself as he really is and knows that God accepts him, he can accept himself.

In theory, yes. In practice, no. Sadly, Christians fall short of their goals very regularly. Just focus on you and don't worry about others.
