My dog just started randomly yelping for no reason what-so-ever.

After a visit from The neighbors new puppy, everytime i open the door or leave the room or do absolutely nothing, my dog yelps like he is in pain.

I took him to the vet the other day and nothing is wrong with him.( before he started yelping)

Any ideas on why hes doing this?
Any ideas on how to stop it?

It sounds like the dog is trying to get your attention. I had a shih tzu years back that whenever we let him outside, he would yelp and scream like he was getting hurt to come back in. He learned from the first time that we would run right to him. So he kept doing that. After a while, he would yelp to go outside too. Later he used this "technique" to get attention so I would play with him.

If it started after the neighbors dog came over, he might have become territorial over you, and is doing anything he can to get your attention. He probably realizes that you come to him whenver he does that.

Below is a good article about dog emotions, and how to interpret them. If he is doing this for attention, you might think about taking him to obedience classes, to learn how to communicate better with him. Also, it might not be a bad idea to at least call your vet and let them know whats going on. It still could be something internal going on that you can't see. Its better to be safe than sorry!

if the neighbor's new puppy visited you in your home, maybe your dog still smells him and is reacting to that. Most dogs are very territorial and want to protect their owner and the home. My dogs yelp too if they smell someone new in my home even after they have left.

Your dog yelps because you stink. Take a bath.
