If you were on a plane that lost all engine power and went into a spiral, if you were in battle, and surrounded by hi-powered rifles pointed at you, if death was certain, would you pray, and to whom?

No Praying, No begging, Die with HONOR

Ok, I am an agnostic not an atheist but I still would not pray at all. I never prayed even when I was a christian so why would I now. If there is no way to change the situation I am in I would accept it and go to my death knowing that I lived a full life and made myself and those I love happy.

Ah yes the old "there are no atheists in foxholes" argument.
It's a load of bunk.
I was in a very serious car accident two years ago, in fact my doctor told me that the possibility of death was very real.
At NO time did I waste even a microsecond wondering what some imaginary sky-pixie thought of me or my life. I made sure my affairs were in order and that my family would be taken care of.
But pray to a make-believe spook in the sky? Why waste the time?

I was in a life-and death situ before. I was an atheist then, and I'm still one now. I didn't pray...I fired like hell and worked as hard as I could to get out of the mini-diaster alive. And then it was over and my men and I picked up the pieces and went on.

No. There is no use in praying because there are no supernatural entities out there seeking to yank our tushes out of life-and-death situations no matter how good we are. If I was certain that I was going to die I would meet the Grim Reaper cooly and calmly; whining wouldn't do any good, and prayer counts as whining.

No, I would not pray, because there is no one to pray to.

This is an expansion of sorts on that silly quote about "no atheists in foxholes." It's just not true. I know more than one person who BECAME an atheist in war and other hopeless situations.

Possibly. But it is a slightly unfair question - You are asking what a person would do if they were terrified out of their mind. I would probably pray to God, Allah, Krishna and Mommy.

That doesn't talk about what I would do if I were in a reasonable and rational state of mind.

No, I wouldn't pray. I haven't prayed in 31 years, and I can't imagine I would start praying now. It's not going to happen.

No. And I pity the person that thinks they can earn points by just praying at the last minute. If God does exist, I'm sure he's not that stupid.

Nope. My wife had cancer, and went she went under for a very risky procedure it occured to me that I could pray for some imaginary God to help her. Then I realized that the only one who could help her was the doctor. And he did. He is a God in my eyes.

I would not pray, no. I have prayed a million times before and my prayers weren't answered then, so why bother to pray now?
