The male equivalent of a nun is a monk. If you want to join a cloistered religious order, and you are a man, you become a monk. If you are a woman, you become a nun.

monks, brothers & friars take the vow of poverty along with the other vows to serve God. they would be the closest version of a male "nun" as the priests do not take the vow of poverty - while they're not loaded but they arenot purse poor like the nuns, monks and friars.

Well Catholics do have Deacons, and they can serve communion as well as many other priestly duties. But I went to Catholic schools and was taught by nuns and I still have no idea what purpose they serve other than to torment young boys.

Monks are men who take a similar vow to the vows that nuns take.

Yes, they are called brothers or monks. They are not priests but take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
There are brothers in Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charities: http://home.comcast.net/~motherteresasite/addresses.html

Yes, monks.
Nuns who are spearated from men belong to a nunnery.
Monks who are separated from women belong to a monastery.
Both can work side by side in an abbey or church.
