*shrug* If you think you know better than the guys that went out there and researched it for 2 years YOU provide a source.

We have totally destablized the entire region, and gained nothing for the American people. Iraq was a balance of power against Iran. Sadam was a sick SOB and his people were misrible, but he was a necessary evil. for our real benefit and security in the region. Now Iraq has been taken over by the Sheites and after we leave they will become a sister state with Iran and our troubles will be more then anything we could imagine now. Security! Less terrorism! Do you honestly feel that we are more secure and have less to fear from terrorists. Time is on their side. No recent terrorist skullduggery is not a sign we are more safe. The first time they tried to blow up the Twin Towers was in 1993. The second time was 8 years later. Afganistan was overrun and "secured" in a matter of months, only to become alive and awake with the Taliban again as we speak 5 years later. Look into the history of guerilla warfare. We were the first to use it on the planet against the British in 1776. Since then, not one guerilla war has been truly defeated. Ho Che Min started his war in Viet Nam in 1936. His side did not win until 1975, but it cost us 58,219 of America's finest. Did we not learn anything from that conflict? 50,000+ allies died in Korea, most were Americans. Did we learn anything from that? We are still fighting that conflict too. The Romans were isolated behind their walls for hundeds of years, but eventually, despite many victories by the Romans, the barbarians came in and destroyed what was Rome. The greatest civilization known in the world up to that point. If we do not learn from History we are doomed to relive it. What is the answer. The third world is the majority today. We are 5% of the population using 30% of the world's resources. Put yourself on their side for just a second or two. What do you see when you look our way. Do you like what you see. Would you be willing to die to get that wealth and privilige for your family. Is it fair that they have it and you don't. Look, whatever you believe it does not matter, they have millions, even billions of people who are willing to die so that their families will have what we have enjoyed for 200+ years. Time is on their side. It always is for the guerilla fighters. We must address their concerns, or we will be at war continiously, and one day even as strong as we are now, they will win. It is inevitable. It might be militarily either. It might be when our supplies of oil run out, or when we owe them more money then we can ever hope to pay back. (Right now we borrow 2 billion dollars a day from other countries around the world.just to stay solvent. China alone owns a trillion dollars of our debt - Treasury Bonds.) Every man, woman, and child in this country owes about $19,000+ each just to pay off our current debt. We are spending one billion dollars a month just to to "fight" the Iraq war alone. How long can we keep that up? England fought Egypt in 1956 to regain the Suez Canal that was built by them and the French in Egypt about 75 years earlier. They lost the war and the canal, and It almost bankrupted that country. They have never been a super power since then. Could that happen to us? Friends Romans and countrymen lend me your ears... we need them to help pay off our horrendous debt, and you are still worried about security and terroists.

We got total economic dependency on China (only a matter of time before we're learning how to read pictographs and making computers and cheap clothing), thousands of our own VOLUNTEERS home in body bags, a brand new terrorist breading ground (why else are the Kurds attacking the Turks again?) and an army unable to support or help our own people during times of natural disaster on our own soil.

We will be reaping the consequences of our misaction in Iraq for decades to come, it's really unfortunate and sickening that people think we're more secure after this whole fiasco. And the amount of Iraqi lives lost for some idiot's false idea of "security" is truly awful.

Big business and big OIL will tell you what we got out of the war that was worth the deaths of 655,000 innocent Iraqis: OIL!!! So we greedy, gluttonous Americans can continue driving $60,000 gas-guzzling SUVs, and buying plastic junk (which is made with petroleum) we don't need at "low prices - everyday" from WalMart.
So what if 655,000 Iraqis are dead? In fact, so what if 3,000 U.S. soldiers are dead? It's the money, Honey....that's all that matters to the nameless, faceless sub-humans who control this country and our politicians. Wealthy elitists, special interest groups, lobbyists, oil companies, big business and the giant military-industrial complex in this country LOVES WAR!!!
Peace is NOT profitable!
Hopefully, Satan has reserved a special oil-soaked corner of Hell for Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and all 535 members of the most corrupt, arrogant, cowardly, incompetent, contemptible, wicked U.S. Congress in our nation's history. -RKO-

When AL Jazerra shows a death toll for all of the Americans killed in terroist's attacks in the last 40 years, then maybe I will consider your question to have some merit. Oh and we DO help Africa, (in fact we probably send more aid to them than anyone else, but in an area so corrupt the aid usually gets "diverted" to war lords, terrorists and dictators such as what happened in Somalia.

who knows bush thought he would get oil and I am sure money is involved to I just do not know how.
Don't try to compare this bush war with ww2, we did not go to japan or Germany and start any thing hilter did but he was crazy what is Bush's reason? any way we were protecting are country during ww2 and it was not easy back then no gas no food every thing went to the men fighting the war and you know that not a person thought that was wrong we all pulled together to get are boys home as fast as we could so don't compare this war with ww2.

Well, we are conquering the entire middle east and gaining a huge supply of energy and sitting in a strategic location ... but ...
It has already been exposed that the killings and bombings are the work of "death squads" working out of the Iraqi interior ministry, which itself is entirely controlled by the CIA. Let me reiterate that in every war waged by the US government against a foreign nation, a counter-insurgency operation has immediately been implemented. Counter-insurgency operations are required in such circumstances because when a country is invaded, an insurgency of some form invariably arises to defend the country. Such insurgents are very difficult for an invading army to defeat given the extensive support and collaboration they enjoy from the general population.

Essentially, an invading army finds itself at war with the population of the country they are invading rather than a separate and independent insurgency. Strategies developed over the years to deal with such situations has come to be known as "counter-insurgency", and include attempts to identify divisions within the society, usually religious, political or ethnic, however insignificant, and to then attempt to provoke these divisions. Of course, in the scenario where a country has been invaded by a foreign military force, such internal divisions become almost nonexistent as the population unites to oppose the invaders, as is the case in Iraq. For this reason, counter-insurgency tactics designed to sow discord must be fabricated and generally involve the creation of a fake insurgency by the military intelligence apparatus of the invading force.

This fake insurgency is made up of groups of armed militia who are paid by the invading force to target and murder distinct groups among the population, again, along religious, ethnic or political lines. In the case of Iraq, we see militia 'death squad' attacks on both Sunni and Shia members of the Iraq population which are blamed on the real insurgency or al-qaeda in Iraq. The hoped-for benefits of such brutal tactics are to demoralise and confuse the real insurgency and the population that supports them, to embroil the real insurgency in an internecine conflict, and, in the specific case of Iraq, to promote the US government's claim that al-Qaeda is still active and poses a deadly threat to civlised societies everywhere. The above scenario is EXACTLY what we are seeing in Iraq with the fake counter-insurgency death squads being controlled, financed and run by the CIA out of the Iraqi interior ministry, or rather, the US government's interior ministry in Iraq. A recent article serves well to prove the assertion that "al-Qaeda" in Iraq is indeed a creation of the US forces that are currently controlling the Iraqi conflict.

Despite all the talk of terrorist groups wanting to attack America again, there haven't been any, right? Because they're a little busy in Iraq.

EDIT: It pretty damn easy to say we're living in peace when you're not the one who will be blamed if anything actually happens. Were we living in peace before 9/11? Do we live in peace when for decades, other countries have been calling for and praying for the fall and destruction of America and all Americans? And of the jews?

It's sad when anyone dies in a war, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a necessary war and was needed to be done for years. This is obvious partisanship, because I didn't see anyone bitching when Clinton had a missile dropped in Baghdad -- during the middle of the Lewinsky scandal incidentally -- "to send a message." Or when he sent troops to Somalia. Or bombed Kosovo. What did we gain from those things?

Yeah, I know...."two wrongs don't make a right." But it sure shows the narrowmindedness when you turn a blind eye to your party and condemn the other party.
