Grab the ear and twist just a little. Or, if you're really brave, stick your thumb down the side of her mouth, and press hard at the joint, it will force the mouth open.

Yikes, sounds like the dog will not accept this new cat...you should probably try to get it into another home that will be safe. There is no surefire way to get a dog to let go, as you have probably realized because you even had to punch your dog! I have seen a cat after he was attacked by a dog...he has a permanent limp and his eye is wonky...he survived but will never be the same.

Spray her in the face with water continuously until she lets go and tell her "NO" & "DROP IT" until she has let go. It sounds like your dog also may need some behavioral management training. Spray bottles with water is what trainer suggest owners use if the dog barks or attacks, plus it is considered the most humane.

1. You can get the dog trained.
2. You can separate them.
3. Hopefully not, you may have to get rid of one of them.
4. Wait till they get used to each other.
5. The cat is provoking the dog.

you might want to get a dog obediance trainer. It might be costly, but I think the dog's behavior isn't too likely to change. Or get rid of the poor kitty...find it a more suitable home. I'm afraid to think of what might happen if you left kitty and dog home alone for a few hours and came home to see.........well, you know.

When I trained dogs to drop a toy or something else, I would grab what they had, and pinch there upper jaw towards the nose. If she will not bite you grab the mouth and cover any wholes then plug her nose, she will have to dropp the cat to get air, then hold the cat and when the dog goes to sniff it tap her on the nose and say NO, she will learn to leave that cat alone, or get a BB gun, with plastic pellets, we did this to our cat's when they tried to get the bird, if they are plastic it does not hurt, just shoot them towards the back legs.

Most dogs will stop attacking if you simply pick them up by their back legs. Simple.

Yell at the dog! Try to scare her. Or pull it's tail, they hate that.Try to flick it's nose. Something scary or painful. It sounds mean, but the lessons that hurt are the ones you remember. Or maybe you can buy a spray bottle and spray it?

Grab the dog on the black part of the nose and twist until she lets go. It works every time.
