well the parent may just have been trying to pick up what they thought was a nasty ole feather that might have bugs on it or something. then again yes it could make u sick if u r allergic.

If you are allergic to birds or just feathers, or if the bird said feather came from carries a communicable disease then yes they can.

Bird dander is not good for your lungs...but I have never been very sick in my life...we raised chickens as kids.
I saw a study that said children exposed to chickens as kids are healthier...you develop immunizations to germs if you are exposed as children.
never had mumps,chicken pocks,measles or any other illness...had my tonsils out thats the last time I've seen a doctor...maybe 35 years ago!

no i have never heard of a feather making you sick. they can carry lice but wont make you sick. i think that mother was a clean freak.

Yeah I dont like my children to pick up feathers either. They can carry lice, or have other mites, etc on them, or people can be allergic to them.

Yes, some people are deathly allergic to them. And some birds in playgrounds likely carry some bacteria and disease.

They might have germs on them from the bird, but I personally wouldn't worry about it if my daughter picked one up.
