There's more than one thing going on here.
1. Fear
2. destructive beahvior to avoid thinking about fear
3. the real possiblity you will bring about what you fear (death) through destructive behavior.
The fear aspect can be helped by several things:
-religion, as long as it is meaningful for you, personally.
-friendship -- a lot of fear about death is feeling that you will disapear all together when you die. Having friends helps you know that you have made connections to others and affected others in this lifetime.
-Family -- having a family helps you know that a part of you is being continued even after you are gone.
-Talking -- talk about your fears to someone you can trust. Go to a pastor, a priest, a rabbi, a monk and ask questions. They are all experts and won't make fun of you - They are there to take you seriously.
-Ask your friends and family -- If you are comfortable with people close to you enough to talk about it, then do.
-Think about life before you were born -- Is there anything bad that comes to mind? Well, quite honestly, that's a lot like what you will remember from this life when you die. It won't really matter -- regardless of faith you will not remain here, and can't stay here, as a corporeal being.
As for the destructive behavior - Get help to stop. See a doctor. Even a family doctor, if that's all you have access to. You need the time to be around for awhile, so you can figure this out for yourself.
Killing yourself indirectly, isn't the best way to deal with your fear of dying.

I find with matters such as this is to do some research on subjects related to death. I used to be so fearful of death. The thing that got me over it is finding books and death and areas related to death and the afterlife.
James Van Praagh has some good books out there that I found to be helpful.
Talking To Heaven
Reaching to Heaven
Heaven and Earth
In his books he talks about the fear of death and how common it is for people to feel that way.
Another suggestion is to go to a Spiritualist church and take in a service. The services usually have a demonstration of mediumship - where the medium connects with a soul who has passed on.
This may work for some and my freak others out. I make these suggestions via my own experiences and this is what has worked for me. I now feel comfy with death and view it as a part of life. It's really like getting out of one car and into another.

Understand that death is just an illusion of separation. There's no hell. It was created by religions to control men. We are all spirits having a human experience here. Death is just a form of entrance into where we are originally from. The physical body is just a vehicle for us to experience life here on earth. At death, we would discard the body and go back to where we were from. Life is not hard on the other side. Life is only hard on this side.
Please don't waste anymore of your energy and time into something that you can't change. Since you're here already, try to cherish what you have and experience life. Do something that you always wanted to do and work toward that goal.

For me? There are two things:
Firstly, it's going to happen. There's no avoiding it. It's merely a matter of when and where. The fact that it could be as I'm writing this message, or the fact that it could be 75 years from now keeps me from worrying about it. I probably won't see it coming, and when it happens, that's just how it is.
Secondly, I believe that after I die, I'll be going to heaven, which is a much better place than this filthy earth. In a sense, I almost look forward to it. Do I want to die? No, but am I excited about getting to heaven? Absolutely.
Hope this helps!

Well, think of it this way:
Would you rather live till 100 on a breathing machine, in a old person's home, with parkinsins disease(sp?) or althimerz disease(sp)?
Or would you rather die around 85 or 90 on just the peak of where all the **** starts happening to you?
Hope this helps a little....
Just don't think about death and live your live the best you can.

Very few people overcome their fear of death most just repress it. The fact is you are going to die along with the rest of us. Therapy may help you reduce the intensity of your fear

Hi Jayson, You have this kind of fears of Death because you haven't accept God into your life. Let God lead you the life and he will take care of you. Start by going to church, pray earnestly and God will hear your prayers.
God bless us all.

Just think about it-lots of things are worse than death. I am scared more of life-like suffering, etc.
