It is a bit questionable whether it is considered pedophilia.
The APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th edition, Text Revision gives the following as its "Diagnostic criteria for 302.2 Pedophilia"[19] :
* Over a period of at least 6 months, recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children (generally age 13 years or younger).
* The person has acted on these urges, or the sexual urges or fantasies cause marked distress or interpersonal difficulty.
* The person is at least age 16 years and at least 5 years older than the child or children in Criterion A.
Note: Do not include an individual in late adolescence involved in an ongoing sexual relationship with a 12 or 13-year-old.
As you can see a 17 year old in an ongoing relationship with a 12 year old is excluded but wanting sex with a 12 year old is not. So unless you've been having sex with her since you were both little, you're a pedophile.

In every state and federal jurisdiction of the United States, the law states that a minor below the age of consent in that state or jurisdiction cannot consent to sexual activity of any sort involving a partner. 17 year old maybe be age of consent and will be prosecuted for sex with any minor even 2 years younger.

Wrong answer 17 is a young adult, and 12 is still a child. Also since 12 years old is nowhere near the Age Of Consent, if there is any sex involved it is rape. And the 17 year old should find his/her butt in jail.

The maturity and age level are way too far apart. This borderlines on lunacy. A 17 year old interested in a 12 year old has major issues.

It's not right under any circumstance. 17 is practically an adult and you can care for yourself, and 12 is so young your parents make all decisions for you still. I would not recommend at ALL. That a 17 year old dates a12 year old!

The 12 year old is a child by any definition. A 17 year old who is attracted to a 12 year old rather than someone in their own age group, has serious problems, already.

As far as the courts are concerned, 17 is close enough to being an adult that they won't make the difference. There are laws for this sort of thing.

it is illegal when the 17 year old turns 18 and has sexual relations with the 12 year old,it is not okay for 12 year olds to have sex with anyone of any age

Yes it is definitely pedfilia. Studies show that if person likes /wants another person that's 25% younger then him/her is pedofilia.
Imagine if a 4-year old likes a 3-year old? Or a 10-year old likes a 7-year old?
