Hatred is felt by another person only in those moments when we attack them. But it harms us with every thought, whether the other person is around or not.
More than anything else, we define ourselves by our thoughts, and if those thoughts are full of hate, we become defined by that hate.

Oh course hatred harms us! Hate makes people murder, kidnap and makes the world as bad as it is. Think about what would happen if no one hated each other. The world would be a better place. There would be no world hunger, no violence, kids could run around everywhere and they wouldn't get hurt. History would be changed a lot. Slavery would never happen all the way back to the creation. World War I and II would have never happened in fact there will be no war at all. All that hatred ever had given us was war, pollution, a cost us the lives of millions of people.
Maybe an indiviual person doesn't do as much damage but it hurts the other person and doesn't really make them feel good. It also isn't good for a person to have anger towards someone. it can make them do something that they shouldn't.

Not if it is a tool for learning and does not harm others. Isn't life about balancing emotions? Is it really possible to be good all the time?
By the way, I love your screen name. After some of the "thoughtful" questions I have tried to pose, people think I'm a Bad Buddhist too. :(

My husband and that i are doing our ultimate to no longer do corporation everywhere that illegals are employed. we've stopped having them wash our truck and we can't dine anywere the place they artwork which comprise speedy food and that i will no longer be able to save everywhere the place I see illegals working. i think of if incredibly everyone did this who's against the amnesty bill it would harm the organization's who hire them and that they might end hiring them. after all they are people who desire the cheap exertions and is bribing our President to maintain them right here. however the only way we are able to get decrease back on the businesses who hire those human beings is that if we no longer provide them our money. because of the fact money is what it fairly is all approximately it has no longer something to do with worrying approximately human beings or desirous to help them. and that i'm afraid if the amnesty bill passes that the illegals will take over and American's will no longer count. we can be thrown to the way area because of the fact the illegals take each little thing it incredibly is ours and make it theirs. And whilst it comes time to offer each of them their earned income tax credit of $seven-hundred.00 we can be envisioned to pay it as our government won't have any different way of acquiring all the tens of millions mandatory to recompensate them for making low wages. And which will open an entire new can of worms.

Hatred, like cancer, eats up the hater from the inside. It is physically and emotionally very damaging, just like cancer.

The Gospel in Matthew ch. 5 stated that he who hates without a cause is a murderer. The prerequisite to murder is to hate, right? So, even if you have never shed blood, you are a killer in God's eyes.

Not by themselves. It is the way with which we deal with our emotions that harms or benefits us.
