What distinguishes a very improbable event which happened to occur at a fortunate time, possibly after having been prayed for, but which does not defy any known laws of nature, from a genuine miracle, if there is such, for which there appears to be absolutely no rational explanation?

It is my strong suspicion that a lot of events get labeled as miracles that are really nothing more than fortuitous events for whish there are very rational explanations that do not require intervention by a God.
Just like beauty being in the eye of the beholder, a miracle is in the eye, or the mind, of the beholder.

jenny lee, does what you speak of require divine intervention or temporarily suspending the laws of nature in order to happen? That is the definition of a miracle that I am wondering about. Not every insoiring or pleasant experience is a miracle.

make that "inspiring",
p + o are right next to each other, you know.
For me to type without typos would take a genuine miracle.
