It's generally not a good idea to suddenly stop, start, or switch mind-altering drugs. Gradual changes are considered better, as a sudden change can throw your brain chemistry off balance.
Of course, now you've done it, and others here apparently survived without too much trouble. Could be you've simply come down with the flu at the same time. Maybe some cold medicine type stuff would help.

It is NEVER EVER a good idea to stop ANY antidepressant cold turkey! It is actually quite dangerous to do so without a doctor helping you thru it. I have just stopped taking the maximum dose of zoloft (200mg a day), but it is done by weaning it down slowly. I am also being switched to Paxil, so the 2 meds were being "piggy-backed" for a month. PLEASE do not risk the terrible side effects that can occur by suddenly stopping. Talk to your doctor. Do research online about prozac withdrawal. I wish you the best!

I was on prozac for 6 years, I can tell you this much.WhenI was on it, if I skipped a few days everyone knew it. It was usually someone else who would let me know I needed to take it. If I ever drank alcohol, when I was on it, I would turn straight evil!!! I mean I wanted to fight the biggest person man or woman in the room, place, world. And I wanted to kill them. Knives, guns, you name it.
So I finally decided to go off the meds, I went cold turkey, and the symptoms that you are describing, I did not have. I was just a real b*$#h for a few weeks, but after, about 3 months, I was better, and now its been 3 years, I am way better, no meds at all!!!! I am not depressed, I am stronger Than I ever thought I could be. Now, If your doctor thinks you need meds, talk to him, but if you are on them cause your doctor (like so many) cures everything with a pill. get a second opinion.

I've gone off prozac a couple of times in the past few years. I didn't notice anything. Maybe you're just getting sick. Prozac is not known as an addictive antidepressant like Paxil. Prozac can stay in your body for weeks after you quit, so it's not like your body suddenly noticed no more prozac in the bloodstream, and went through withdrawl. Nevertheless, tell your doctor and see what he/she recommends.

Do NOT stop cold turkey, it can have very serious side effects. Contact your doctor for a schedule to help you taper off.

Never stop any medication without consulting your Dr. first. However if you don't feel well when taking it call your Dr and tell him so that he knows, then let him discontinue the med and replace it necessary. Good Luck

Typical signs of abrupt withdrawal. go see your doc. They can steer you in the right direction and give you an anti-emetic too to help with the nausea (anti-sick).
