How is his vision. Have you seen anything else that looks odd to you. I mean if he's your dog and you've had him for a while you would be the one who notices sudden changes of his character. He could be just a playful dog as suggested above but there also could be another problem lying there. Maybe he's not feeling well a little sick to his tummy. But ultimatly if you feel that he is not acting like the dog you've had for years then it's time to go to a vet and have him checked out. It may cost you 40 bucks to have a general exam done but in the long run at least you'd still have your dog right.

I believe that is the way to 'release' excess energy in a controlled manner. You have a breed that has alot of energy, and needs to use up that energy through play, and alot of it. The old saying goes, "A tired dog is a happy dog!" Take him to a doggy park to play with other dogs or to play fetch or Frisbee. Maybe even teach him to run next to a bike (or you can take up jogging) Its up to you as an owner of a high energy dog to give him the exercise that he needs. You will see a difference after!

Your dog walks in circles? Man, when my dog gets excited he runs around in circles for about 10 minutes.
He's just excited, that's all. If he's pacing around or whatever he might just want you to play with him. Of course if he's doing this inside the house, it may mean he needs a bathroom break.

My dog used to turn exactly 5 circles every time I said the word 'walkies' & went to the front door. He's excited that's all.

It means the dog is playful. When a dog walks in circles,it's trying to chase it's tail,or,maybe it's bored.
