I saw this when the 7/7 bombings happened. They interviewed people who were on the tube and they said they were calling, 'Please help God, I dont want to die'

And when some hurt touches man, he cries to his Lord (Allah Alone), turning to Him in repentance, but when He bestows a favour upon him from Himself, he forgets that for which he cried for before, and he sets up rivals to Allah, in order to mislead others from His Path. Say: "Take pleasure in your disbelief for a while: surely, you are (one) of the dwellers of the Fire!" (Qur'an 39:8)

If theists want to believe that all atheist are not really atheists, then that is just one more fantasy on top of many fantasies.

I expect there are some people who claim to be atheists who are simply rebelling from their theist parents. Such people might call out to God when they are afraid of dying. But to generalize and claim that all atheists are this way is just wishful thinking.

Look at it this way. I was raised Mormon. I didn't start to question what I was taught until I was 12, but it took another six years or so before I became "convinced" that Mormonism is wrong. But a rational decision alone is not enough to wipe out 18 years of conditioning. It took another 10 years or so before I could drive by a Mormon temple and not feel a little freaked out.

Now if you are Mormon reading this you'll be thinking to yourself "see, the Holy Spirit is still calling out to you." If you are not Mormon but are some other sect of Christianity, you might also be thinking something like that. But my experience is that most Christians think Mormons are not Christians and are just some cult. Those of you in this category must make a decision: when I was freaked out driving by a Mormon temple, was it because the "Holy Spirit" was calling out to me, or was it because there was still some emotional baggage in my brain from 18 years of Mormon cult conditioning?

If I had been in a foxhole sometime in my 20s, it's quite possible that my cult conditioning deep inside my brain would have taken over. I might have been one of those atheists who isn't. But now that I am nearly 50, I am 100% certain that Mormons are totally wrong, and 100% certain that the Hebrew Bible is myth.

I don't want to die before my time, but I won't be praying to the God of Abraham when I am near death any more than Christians will be praying to Zeus.

I'm sure while some may I would say most do not. When you don't believe in a deity you don't expect their help no matter the situation. I am an agnostic and a skeptic when it comes to the existence of deities and I will not call out for something which may or may not even be real for help when I need to help myself or at worst accept the situation I am in.

Remember, an athiest is someone who BELIEVES that there IS NO GOD. An athiest wouldn't call on God in trouble, an agnostic would though. If you call on anyone though, I would suggest calling on the name of Jesus. It's the only name with true authority.

What makes you think that atheists "call on God" when caught up in a disaster?

I think this is wishful thinking on your part. Why are you so threatened by atheism? Where is your faith?
(These questions are for all of the believers here who so desperately accepted this false story)

I don't know of any Atheists who do this. By definition, an Atheist wouldn't call upon something she or he doesn't believe exists.

Did they interview people who were in danger that were once Atheists and now are firm Theists?

Well I dont know too much about what you say. But when one is dying or believes themselves to be dying, then by all means they should use all means possible. I know I would. If I didnt believe in God, I think I would call on him for help...after all their just might be a slight chance that I was wrong for NOT believing in the first place.........

They don't claim to believe in God because they feel it cramp their lifestyle, yet when their back is against the wall and they become desperate they call on anyone they think might help. Including someone they claim not to believe in.

Surah 109. The Disbelievers, Atheists

1. Say : O ye that reject Faith!

2. I worship not that which ye worship,

3. Nor will ye worship that which I worship.

4. And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship,

5. Nor will ye worship that which I worship.

6. To you be your Way, and to me mine.
