There are lots of beginning cookbooks out there. Go to your local library and ask to be pointed in the direction of the cooking section and look for one labeled easy, beginning, few ingredients - things like that. Libraries are free and most likely the librarian will be happy to help you find the right area and depending on the librarian maybe browse through the cookbooks with you and make some suggestions if you are nice and look really confused. You could also try looking for cookbooks for kids, they usually have easy recipes.
Do all your prep work first before actually starting to cook anything, even if the recipe says to cut something while you are waiting for something else. Until you are more comfortable in the kitchen you don't want to forget to stir something on the stove because you are still cutting up the onions or something.
Buy one of those digital timers that have the ability to set at least 2 different times and that you can take with you, so that if you are cooking something that has to be in the oven for a while you won't forget or miss the timer if you aren't close to the stove.
Relax, try to set aside time when no one will bother and distract you and practice a lot and often.

Sounds like your problem may be distraction

You may want to get a timer to help you not forget about your food

You also have to want to cook - if not you won't be trying and nothing you do will be good if you are not really trying

Also you need to learn some of the basics of cooking -like never try to cook something too fast or on higher heat than called for - it never turns out good - the one girl suggested a cooking class -this could be a good idea because once you learn the basics you can apply it to almost anything

You are so not alone. I am a very good cook, gourmet level. I made Oodles of Noodles for Dude's son, and he refused to eat them.

What a kick to my ego!

Pick up a Cooking light Annual Cookbook from the library. Those recipes are simple with common ingredients.

Start cooking! Just make sure you follow the instructions exactly.

By the way, Easy Mac is not easy.

the first thing is to enjoy the art of cooking,to look at it as a creative process like painting a picture or writing a song,then never leave the food alone when your cooking,it does not cook by itself (it burns by itself though) much like tending to a child learning to ride a bike,you wouldnt just give a bike to a kid and say learn how to ride this and then walk away would you?cooking is a wonderful process whether cooking just for yourself or for others,it is life,like air and water we cannot live without it,the more you love it the more it will love you back....cheesy yes,but very true. and of course take a cooking class at your local community college or community center,there are little tricks that you just cant learn on your own and this will make it easier and much more enjoyable.

Learning to cook is tricky. The very first meal I made my boyfriend, who is now my husband of 27 years, was burnt hot dogs. I was so upset. but he ate them anyway and said that he liked them that way. (Of course I didn't believe him). But with patience and practice,and many funky meals, I finally got the hang of it. Everyone does. You just need to pay attention to what is happening in the pan or in the oven. You will get it, someday. and the day will come when you will know how to make homemade mac and cheese. But for now, cook your easy mac in 2/3 cup water in a microwavable bowl and cook in for 4 min. do not add the cheese till AFTER the macaroni is cooked. Have fun learning! I know I did.

You want to learn how to cook I have some book's you should read, It'll be fun.

Just cause it says "easy mac", doesn't mean it's you every microwave is different so don't beat up on yourself.

here are some book's "Joy of Cooking" or anything by Jean Pare, "Company's Coming" cookbook

Just try again, but this time make it real mac and cheese and throw that easy mac crap out.

You shouldn't beat yourself up so bad....everyone burns food from time to time. But I will let you in on a secret. "High" on the stove dial is for lighting the burner only. To become a fantastic cook....never be in a hurry....always give the food you are preparing time to breath and get used to the heat....therefore, you cook on "Low" or "Medium", never "High". Even on the cooking shows on TV, they will use the "High" level to light the stove, and on a few occasions to heat up the pan....but they always turn the fire down to cook.
Keep trying, you will do just fine. Why not try that Mac again.

The best way is by watching someone that knows. If you are on your own, get a book with easy recipes and try, try and try again. Corredting whatever went wrong, i.e. cook your next easy mac for less time or on a lower heat.

Your cooking sixth sense will develope if you practice enough.

Hey! Its not a big deal! Who likes Easy Mac anyway..... :). Just keep trying! It will get better over time. Ane some people are born to cook and others just go to Mickey D's ( Mc Donalds) Its not the end of the world just keep trying!

See if you turn the heat down on the cooker, you can cook anything, it just takes longer, but you won't burn anything. The most important thing is, never give it the chance to stick to the bottom of the pan. Continuous stirring of whatever it is you're making. Only use higher heat levels when you're more confident that you know what you're doing.
