she would actually do any real harm to me. the only way to calm her down is by saying " there's a good girl" and being really soft with her, however this doesnt always work. In the house she is a little angel and butter wouldnt melt. Also we have to other bitches, 1 other is the top dog and the other is so soft she wont stick up for herself when the doberman bites her. We have to keep them seperate apart from when supervised....any ideas how to stop all this would be much appreciated....thankyou x

to dobiegang.....she is being aggresive and growling, but not like the way she does when a strager walks past the house. I have total faith that she wouldnt do me any real harm, but it does hurt ( she is nipping and showing her teeth) im not sure if its a attention thing. We have an acre of land and she is walked for 2 hrs a day in the field and then had the run of the garden.

If she is only biting in the garden, maybe she thinks its a game. Try playing some games that not only excercise her body but her mind too. I agree that obedience training is a good idea. I have a 17 month dobie dog. He also jumps and plafully bites.. the training is working (or maybe he is now getting out of puberty!! haha)
Good Luck - she is your family and where there is a will there is a way!

Start watching the show "The Dog Whisperer" on National Geographic Channel. Or, if you are like us and don't get the National Geographic Channel, head to Best Buy and pick up the DVD's. You can also check out the site online...

It is all about dominance as the doberman owner above said, BUT it doesn't have to take a lot of time... just consistency.
I've worked with animals all my life and Cesar Millan (the show I listed above) manages to communicate to owners the importance of structuring the relationship better than anyone I have every seen. These ARE NOT dog training videos.
Good Luck!

Is she biting you to mean and show aggression, or is she wanting you to play with her.I know some dobies play rough with humans as well as other dogs.I have two female dobies and one male, as well as a small female mixed breed. All the dogs loves each other and they all play together ,but I too have seen them play with the little mix and they nip at her too rough. I think they don't even realize their strenght and power, but when their playing goes that far I call a time out and the playing time is done.Just keep correcting her and when she bites you you could even act like you're crying and she might realize she's being to rough on you. Good luck. They are a good breed and I love mine dearly. The guy who says Dobermans shouldn't be out in the sun or they'll have fits(I wonder how many Dobes he has had) my dogs loves the sun and acctually sun bathe, and they have never had a fit or turned on me. I have had 9 dobes over the past 25+ years. Don't believe all that you hear.

Dobermans are beautiful dogs, but all dogs are pack animals, she is stating her place at the top of the pack, this is why she settles down when you act submissively towards her. You have to show her who is boss, not physically but psychologically. For instance, Make her wait for her food until you have eaten , put her in her place or she will get worse. Feed the soft dog 1st, making sure the doberman can see what you are doing, it will take time but it should work.
Ignore the tossers who say get rid, she is part of your family and just needs love and patience.

With any pack animal you have to have a leader and she is trying to be that leader. What I would suggest to you is that when you tell her to do something tell her to do it with meaning in your voice so that she understands who's boss. One thing you should never do is hit her in an attempt to make her do something. With Doberman dogs remember that they have a very thin cranium (top of head) and not a lot of fur (hair) covering it so during the summer months try to keep her out of the sun if possible as it can cause them to have fits and turn on their owners or others without warning.
**UPDATE"" IN ANSWER TO DOBIEGANG, I'VE HAD FIVE DOBES AND ALTHOUGH IT MAY NOT BE THE SAME FOR ALL OF THEM THERE WAS ONE ***** THAT WENT CRAZY THROUGH THE SUN AND THIS WAS THE VETS DIAGNOSIS, NOT MINE.

Some animals give what we call Love Bites; however, if its a vicious bite,
we used a comfortable muzzle (over the head) until she learned what is was
for. Takes awhile sometimes others not. Good Luck and keep giving your
love.

I totally agree with the pack idea. You need to stop that biting RIGHT AWAY or someone is going to get hurt. If you can watch the Dog Whisperer....totally awsome show with great ideas and actions.

i wouldnt eat before her i would eat at the same time, she needs extra attention, when she bites spray her with water or carry a bottle of water and throw it on her each time she does this. i am very experienced in dog handling and training any other help you can ask me. the water thing does work and is not cruel also in no way does it hurt but startles them and they stop. trust me on this one.

You really must teach your Doberman some manners before she harms the timid dog, or a human.
Take her to dog training classes. Urgently!
