When you fed them by hand they were very scared at the tme probably. Let them fly around the room. Make sure there is no lamp kid of a thing there. A small night light would work in the night. Try to teach them to sit on your hand. Once they have learned, they would prefer sitting on your hand because it is warmer and softer than the wood perches. Birds are usually not ment to be pet. Buy a fake tree for them to sit on, they will love it. When ur trying to give them a bath, use a water sprayer thing and spray them. The first couple of times they won't like it, but when they are persuaded to try the it they will live it. Don't spray water in their face because it hurts for them. Birds tend to like music and the chirp along to it.

do you notice this reaction 'after' you've done certain things, like petting your cat or dog if you have one.. or after cooking. Some birds dont like certain 'smells'..... if you've done something, like, pet your cat, the bird might smell the cat on your hands, and is reacting to the smell. Another 'smell', could be soap.... if you've just washed your hands, that also could be another smell that it doesn't like. How long have you had these birds, and are they both like 'that' ?? Sounds like quite possibly all they need, is more time with you. Have lots of patience with them, and just put your hand inside the cage with them there, without trying to actually grab them, or get to them. Let 'them' get used to your hand being in "their" territory...even if it means grabbing a chair, and sitting there for a half hour, with your hand in the cage. Sounds like they just need to spend more time getting use to you.

You might want to house your parakeets in seperate cages as it is easier to tame them individually. They will not bond to you as easily if they have each other but it is not impossible. Talk to them, let them know what you are going to do to them. I find that it does help in assuring my own parrots. For example if I am going to stroke them, I will ask "do you want some scratches?" and proceed to scratch their nape.

Taming parrots need patience and constant training. Clipping their wings will also make things easier as they will not fly away everytime you get closer. Try to let them get used to you when they are out of the cage, the cage is their home and some of them will not be comfortable with you intruding on their territory.

Hope this helps
