No, to tone up you just have to lose fat around the muscle. Training until failure is just a way of training, you should probably do running alot. Just lose some fat and that will tone up your muscles. I would do it since you're a male and it will make you look more muscular and buff. No need to be confused, all there is to it is to burn more calories than you take in. About 3,000 calories equals a pound of fat. Just do enough excersize to start burning fat. Also, it is not recommended to eat bread during a diet because it has lots of carbohydrates. They are your bodies immediate energy source. When your body does not have carbohydrates, it starts using the fat. Fat is a reserve of energy when you don't have any. When you run out of what you have it uses it so it's when you start losing fat.

Everything I have read recently says to work your muscles to failure, where you can't do one more and then have a day of rest in between so that the muscles can start to heal. I've been doing this for about 7 weeks now and am really noticing a difference in my overall muscle tone.

No,you dont have to work your muscles to failure to tone up.The key is lower weight and higher repititions.I am 33 years old and work out every day.I am able to work out every day because I don't push my muscles to failure...Less healing time is required.I stick with circuit training.Pick one movement for each muscle group and do them in a circuit...Be sure to alternate(don't do 2 pushing movements in a row)....Push...Pull.The weight training part of my workout takes a half an hour and is really intense...The circuit training also allows the heart rate to get to where it should be for maximum results.I also spend a half hour on the heavy bag...Great cardio.....This was Bruce Lees chosen workout and look at the shape he was in!!!!
