We have a lhasa apso and he does the same thing. He will sprint around the house, playing with and throwing his toys, jumping over things, etc.
He usually does it when he hasn't had enough exercise that day. If he goes on a really long walk, it usually eats up his extra energy.
Once in awhile, though, he does it when he's ready to go to bed. He just runs around to use up the extra energy. Once he gets done going through one of his spurts, he is usually almost comatose and just lays on the floor because he's all worn out.
The only other time he does it is when he wants attention, because he knows people will pay attention to him and try to get him to calm down.
I would say if your dog is doing this, it's normal behavior and that he just has some extra energy. There is nothing wrong with him, it's just him being a dog!

My Maltese does that all the time. He will even get a bone or toy and start tossing it in the air and barking/growling at that too. He will run from room to room like he's being chased. He'll stop and chase his tail and then start running all over again. If he sees something outside that isn't usually there, like an empty bag he goes crazy for that too.
THEN if we clap and encourage him, he smiles and does it all over again.

Dogs have their hyper moments, just like humans. He might want someone to play with him, or he might have to go out.

He just wanted to play, take him out and play with him. Even big puppies do that, mine did.

My dog did that, we called it "getting the rips". They are just feeling playful and trying to get you to play with them, you should do so & enjoy it =)
