I never refrigerate my ketchup bottle after opening it and i always buy the biggest bottle around wchich takes about 2/3 months to finish off in my home.

So far even though I have kept it outside my ketchup has never gone bad or tasted any different.

No it doesn't. Those that answered yes are liars. I just looked on my bottle of Heinz before answering. NOWHERE on the bottle does it say that it needs refridgeration. It does give a warning that if the plastic bottle is dropped, it may break & is printed on both sides of the label around the neck of the 66 oz bottle.

Go to a restaraunt, like Denny's, Applebee's, TGIFriday's, Hardees, etc, & most of the catsup is on the table, room temperature. When you go to McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc, the packets are room temperature too. It would cost a small fortune to refridgerate all those packets too. Refridgerated castup is a personal choice. I keep mine at room temperature.

The use by date is about a year away from the date of purchase from the store. Heinz, Hunts & Del Monte know this & know that it'll be consumed well before that date. Hunts & Del Monte probably need to be refridgerated as their catsup isn't held to the same high standards as Heinz.

Refridgeration does NOT preserve the flavor of catsup. It's best eaten room temperature for full lycopene & antioxidant benefits.

Although we're all used to "refrigerate after opening", I think catsup is an exception - unless a brand specifically states (to) on the label.

I'm not kidding. . .I just watched this "Tomato Show" and it talked all about tomatoes. . .For some reason we feel the need to refrigerate whole tomatoes/ketchup. . .but there is no need.

You actually get better/more flavor when it is at room temperature.

Also . . .the healthy benefits dissipate when the temp falls below 33 F.

Hope this helps!

Yes, refrigerate after opening and use within 8 weeks or before the "best by" date.

It is funny that most of us do....yet I really don't think it is necessary. I put mine in the fridge too! I think it must be how your family did it when you grew up and you just do the same!

ketchup don't need to be refrigerated. Most foods will stay edible much longer if you can find an area that won't get any direct sun.
