For the most part, I've never heard of someone that truly WANTED to go to war, but, unfortunately, war is sometimes a necessary evil in order to maintain overall peace.

If they believe the cause is just, I think most soldiers will want to go to war. But it's fighting for the cause, and not the war itself, that they desire. It's kind of like someone who wants to help with disaster relief. They want to go rescue people and rebuild towns, but that doesn't mean they sit around praying for a hurricane to strike.

There are some small portion of soldiers, usually young and naive, who look forward to the action and "excitement" of war. The vast, vast bulk of them get an entirely different opinion shortly after getting their first taste of what war is all about.

I am not a soldier (im in the AF) but I think going overseas is the best part of the job. Yes it sucks being away from the family but its very rewarding to finally be doing what you signed up for.

I am kinda pissed right now though. I was supposed to get ready to ship out to Afghan but a last minute change is putting me over in Kuwait....

My friend said that he was happy when he received his deployment orders to Afghanistan because he "hadn't joined the forces to be the best store man in Gagetown." Combat is frightening. You are afraid at some level all the time when you in a combat zone and when you waiting to go to or return to a combat zone. But its better then training and whole lot better than standing guard or whatever in garrison. You know when you join that someday you will be in harms way. If you don't your fooling yourself. When it happens you feel afraid but relieved, the waiting is over, now you bear down and pit your training and resolve and weaponry against another's.

we pray for peace, prepare for war. You should be darn gratefull that you can sleep in peace tonight because of the brave soldiers that do their job. Sure there are those that only enlisted because of the benefits, they are probably not very happy right now. Thats to bad. No one wants to go to war, but we do it because we know that service before self is much more important.

My boy's didn't ,but did when called to fight for their country . They thought they would go to Afghanistan , where the Al Qaeda were hiding and they really wanted to get them . But they were sent to invade Iraq and that has become a disaster . They want to go to Afghanistan , the Iraqis want the US Military gone and most don't want to be there . They can't say anything to their commanders , but it's the truth .

No. We are not happy to go to war. It's not somehting we like to do. But since we raised our right had, and swore to defend the Constitution of the United States, we will go wherever we are told, and carry out the orders of those above us. Nobody would like to kill another human.

Most soldiers are proud to serve their country, whatever the job is.
2/3 of all US Military re-enlisted last year.
What great Americans!!!!
They serve in Iraq, while these little liberals back home are hoping that we lose.

Some people do like to put their training to use, but they dont want to go to war like that...

Many people would like to go to a war they believe in, like defending their country from nuke crazy dictators about to take over and nuke US...

But war like Iraq, soldiers were tricked and lied to about the war, everyone was...

No one wants to go to war. My husband is in Iraq now. He is homesick and misses his family, but feels that it is his job and his duty to protect us.
