Okay Im 38 weeks pregnant and I am 1cm dilated, 90%effaced, soft and up-close. I want him here but at the same time I am kind of scared about labor..lol. I would like him here on his due date. Oct. 30th but me and my husband have been discussing Oct. 19th. Because it was his grandfathers birthday that he was very close to. I know there are things like walking and having sex to try and get yourself to go into labor. I was recently told that I was brought into the world with caster oil within 8 hours. However, I have also heard that it makes the pregnant woman miserable. I am scared enough of labor im not sure that I want to do that. Has anyone had any good experiences with it? Also I dont feel I can have sex every night because my pelvic bone has been feeling like its broken in half for the past week so it kind of hurts. I want it to be the 19th if possible so it can be even more special. So caster oil?? good bad and what else to do? Thanks for all your Help!!!!

I have only heard negative things about caster oil, and would suggest talking to your doctor before you do anything. But I can tell you now, you can never really plan on when to give birth. That baby will come when it is good and ready, not when you want him to. So I would not plan anything.

Are there any techniques I can try myself at home to get my labor going?
No do-it-yourself methods have been proven consistently to be both safe and effective. Here's the scoop on some of the techniques you may have heard about:

• Nipple stimulation: Twisting or pinching your nipples releases your own natural oxytocin. A few studies have found it to be effective in getting labor going within 72 hours if your cervix is already ripe, but the method has not been well studied. And don't try it at home: Nipple stimulation requires monitoring because it can sometimes cause prolonged contractions that could stress your baby and depress his heart rate.

• Sexual intercourse: Semen contains some prostaglandin and having an orgasm may stimulate a few contractions, but having sex won't induce labor.

• Castor oil: Castor oil is a strong laxative, and stimulating your bowels may cause some contractions, but no good studies have proven it consistently effective, and you're likely to find the effect on your gut very unpleasant.
(sounds like fun)

• Herbal remedies. A variety of herbs are touted as useful for labor induction. Some are risky because they can hyperstimulate your uterus (and may be unsafe for your baby for other reasons as well), and the safety and effectiveness of others remains unproven.

You can try whatever you want to. I've heard that castor oil can give you diahrea and isn't good for the baby. I took a lot of walks during the last month of my pregnancy. I went for a walk around the block about once a day. On my son's due date, August 29th, I went for a walk around the block twice and my water ended up breaking at 2:40AM on August 30th so walking may have helped but he may also just have been ready to come out. There's really no guarenteed method to getting your baby to come out. Certain things can help the process but it's different for each woman.

I am 38 weeks too, due Oct 30th. My Dr is going to "strip my membranes" on my next drs appt. I am 2 cm & 70% effaced (as of last wednesday.) I don't know about the castor oil thing. It is supposed to clear you out, but I've heard it just makes your stomach hurt. There are all kinds of wives tails: walking, sex, female orgasms, taking a ride on a bumpy road. Sorry but it all seems like baloney to me (even though at this point am trying them all!)

it's bad do not take castor oil.....
besides the fact that it tastes gross, my midwife spoke against it and she gave me a cup of ice to suck on which brought on my labour a little faster.
unfortunately though none of these natural remedies are 100% guaranteed to put u in labour at the time u want.
for me i tried all of these tips like sex, walking go for a quick bumpy drive and nothing worked i ended up being induced two weeks after the expected date.
however ice sure did make it happen faster for me.
i hope u can go into labour on that date (but try not to push it and stress too much).
if it doesn't happen you can go into labour on the 29th of october thats my Bday!
i am 35 1/2 weeks pregnant and i cannot wait until he comes either good luck

it will happen when it happens. You can ask the doctor to induce you on that day, but its still not guaranteed that you will have the baby that day. My friend just had her baby last week and her husbands birthday is on October 6th and she got induced that morning and didnt have the baby until 1 am the next morning on the 7th. So no guarantees for anything. Just ask the doctor. Good Luck.

I tried the caster oil and had no luck... not to mention the unpleasent side effects. I have had 4 children and the best advice i can give you is just relax.. it will happen sooner than you think . and in the mean time sleep sleep sleep. good luck.

It sounds like you're ready to go into labor naturally in the near future. Just let that happen and don't worry about the birthdate, just focus on having a healthy baby.

here are a few tips to bring on labour

heard that sex is helpful, but you mentioned it hurts, so dont do it.and also walk
You can take 1 to 4 ounces of castor oil mixed with 6 ounces of orange juice to cut its oiliness. You'll want to drink it quickly because of the unpleasant taste. Some practitioners suggest taking a single dose; others suggest repeated doses depending on your response. Keep in mind that castor oil usually will cause your bowels to empty within about three hours. With luck, soon after that, you will be in true labor.
eat spicy food

also stimulate her nipples, brings about the release of oxytocin, which is the natural form of pitocin. Oxytocin causes contractions, which sometimes evolve into labor.
Your practitioner may offer to "strip your membranes" to help start your labor. This procedure usually feels like a vaginal examination
Accupressure - Accupressure may be helpful in inducing labor. Some pressure points you can try are the roof of your mouth, the webbing of your fingers between your pointer finger and thumb, and above the ankle about four fingerspaces above is a pressure point
Cinnamin stick tea - Take cinnamin sticks and boil them into a tea and drink. It actually tastes good so even if it doesn't bring on labor it may help you to relax.

Evening primrose oil - Evening primrose oil comes in small capsules similar to vitamin E. It is believed to help soften and ripen the cervix.

Visualization/relaxation - Relaxation can help with labor induction. Try doing relaxation exercisers. They are also good practice for when labor actually begins.

Pineapple, cumin tea, eggplant parmesan,

It should be special no matter that date, and these things can be harmful when misused. This should be in natures hands, its your child and it should be special no matter the date... (consult gynecologist and psychiatric help)

I'd say leave it alone and let it happen. That is God's will. Don't mess with nature.
