There is no secret to having a successful long distance relationship. But the four main ingrediants are complete trust, full committments, open communication and love on both parts. Stay in touch several times a week if possible through email, phone calls, letters or whichever way you prefer. Visit whenever you can. Don't forget to share your feelings. You have to trust yourself as well as your partner. Be committed to them only, do not allow yourselves to be tempted by others, do not test you love (you might fail), and do not place yourself in a compromising position with others (you might lose more than you want).

There is not secret, just don't do it. Don't limit yourself. Enjoy life right now and don't hold back because you have someone else, someplace else.
I wasted 2 years in a long distance relationship and all we ended up doing was delaying our own personal growth. I missed out on a lot of opportunities to meet new people and discover new things about myself.

Definatly trust and communication. It depends on how romantic you guys are and how much you like certain kind of things. If im dating someone and its long distance I enjoy it when they leave me a little message on the computer...or a text...or random phone calls. Some people have problems with this but if you miss someone..tell them..if you think about them , let them know. Now there comes a point where this crosses the line and starts getting obsessive and creepy.
"You have....67...new voicemails"... Yeah dont let it get like that . lol. Frequent calls, random sweet messages to let her/him know you care and miss them. And show trust in them enough ... a relationship goes downhill really fast if one person feels like the other doesnt trust them. Good luck!
