You should maintain a minimum of 1200 calories, spaced out throughout the day in about 6 mini-meals of 200-300 calories each. Any less than this and your body will go into starvation mode and will hang onto every calorie you consume and store it, thinking that there is a food shortage. You actually have to eat to lose weight, so that your body will think that there is plenty and will therefore allow you to burn more calories. Seems a bit convoluted, but that's how it works.

That probably isnt a good idea. You may actually gain weight. When you starve your body the next time you eat normally your body will hold more calories than if you would have just eaten normally. If you want to rev up your metabolism than you could eat six small meals a day. You're body wont absorb as many calories when it knows its going to have more every few hours. I'd recommend eating healthy instead of starving. You may get frustrated and give up all together.

No, No, NO, NO, NO! It is NEVER a good idea to eat only 1 meal per day-you should be eating 5 small meals to lose weight, not juust 1. Starving yourself is very bad for your body, and will hurt your metabolism among other things. Make sure you eat a nice, large, low-sugar low-fat breakfast (like Tuna, Oatmeal, etc) right when you wake up so your metabolism kicks in.
Then, eat a healthy snack (Apple, Carrot Sticks, etc) about 2-3 hours before lunch...then lunch, eat something good in size but not huge...then, another healthy snack, Fruit/Veggie/Popcorn/etc, and then finally a moderate sized dinner, at least 3 hours before you go to bed.
Get plenty of exercise, also.
REMEMBER: Never, ever ever ever ever ever starve yourself or limit yourself to 1 meal!

If you want some compromise, without destorying this idea, I'll say you eat normal meals 3 times a week and the other 4 days eat one meal. I advise to eat normally everyday but with around 1600 calories in healthly foods.

Tips To Increase Weight Naturally
Being thin is good but being very thin and underweight is not good. You should consult a physician if you are a very very thin person. Lots of medical tests would help in revealing the root cause of the problem.
These are some points, which would help in increasing your weight:
Eating: The first important point to increase your weight is to eat well. Eat more than you burn calories. Eating food, which contains more fat is good for people who are thin. Drinking milk, cheese, chicken meat etc are some foods, which contain more fat.
Exercise: Most people think that thin people should not exercise, as they could get even thinner. But it is recommended that they exercise so that they feel hungrier and eat more. Taking nutritious
food would help the body gain weight. Do not lift heavy weight dumbbells in a gym; instead opt for low weight and do more repetitions.
There are lots of weight gain supplements available in the market, but they are not recommended. Instead have good amount of protein-enriched foods, fruits and products, which contain more fat. Eating lots of protein and fat, as it is very helpful in increasing your weight. So why wait! Start NOW.

Here is what would happen:
1: you would loose weight, but not all weight is created equal.
2: The weight that you loose would be primarily muscle because your body would go into a starvation mode where it will store fat and burn muscle.
3: your results would be that you would weigh less but you will be fatter. This is not a good thing, because when you start eating regular (which you will) you will end up gaining all the weight back on and you will have made yourself fatter and slowed down your metabolism.

Hi Kristin
No it is unlikely you will lose weight fast that way.
You should not skip meals because your body will store fat because it is not getting the nutrients it needs.
If you want to lose weight follow my suggestions below:
Eat 3 meals a day, low fat, low sodium whole foods, drink plenty of cold water throughout the day and snack on almonds, fresh fruit and vegetables.Walk 30 minutes 4 times a day.
Whole foods are whole wheat pasta, bread, fresh vegetables, fruit and nuts. Avoid high sodium food, frozen processed food and high fat foods.
Wish you the best of luck

No, you'll gain it all back on sat and sun. You just eat three good meals a day(lots of vegetables and fruits) about 1500 calories and excercise.

NO! I have the same problem. I am not over weight, but think I am. One meal is not good. I would suggest eatting a few small meals throughout the day, unstead of one big meal.

No you will lose weight slower if you only eat one meal monday through friday because you will be starving yourself and everything you do eat your body will keep everything instead of letting go of the wastes.
