Old Hag. If you really could not breath you would be dead, you are breathing you just do not know it. You could be having a bad dream while you are not yet fully asleep. I have had similar experiences where my eyes were open, I was unable to move, and I could not feel much. The feeling of not being able to move was comparable to being scared stiff. I have known quite a few people who have had the same experience as us and it is commonly called Old Hag. There is a legend behind the term although I do not know it, google it and see what you find.

It sounds like a seizure or other neurological problem (or maybe sleep apnea). Because of not being able to breathe, go to the doctor. He/she may order a sleep study, when you go to the hospital and sleep while hooked up to monitors with people in the next room. If it happens while you are there, they can figure out why.

I used to get something like that. If you're eating cetain foods before you sleep that could be it. Sleep paralysis occurs during REM sleep, so sometimes while you're having this you can still partially be in a dream. It can also be caused by sleeping upward, irregular sleep patterns, increased stress, sudden changes in lifestyle, or artificial sleeping aids or antihistamines. I isnt something to be to concerned about, but if it really bothers you go see a doctor. He may give you some good advice.

it could simply be sleep apenea brought on by stress. sleep apnea is scary no doubt. you are almost in a suspended state of parylsis and you cant get your mind to get your body going again. i always remember when i have sleep apnea.

if it's bothersome, seek the advice of your doctor.

good luck.
