Grasshopper, you must choose one of two ways. Both ways are equally accepted by Buddhist practitioners. Both ways are the way of good fortune.
1. You must take the Buddha statue to the top of Mt. Fuji, there you will find a schedule for garbage pick in you township. Upon acquiring the garbage pick up schedule, you must pull the statue in a rickshaw until you reach the coast of China. Then you must continue by air. Air travel should be by way of the condor. Hang from his belly with the statue clenched between your teeth. Finally, when you arrive back in your homeland you must lay a path of lotus blossom petals from the west coast of America directly to the foot of your garbage can. At the foot of the garbage can, meditate for 40 days and 40 nights. when you are completed with these instructions, open the lid of the garbage can and throw the statue in the can. refer to the garbage pick up schedule (obtained from Mt Fuji), bring the garbage can to the curb on the appropriate day. Farewell.
Or
2. chuck the thing in the garbage can.
Choose well.
PS- the point I'm trying to make is that it doesn't matter. A statue of the Buddha is not THE Buddha. It's a piece of plastic (or whatever it's shaped from. Non attachment is something that Buddhists practice. A statue is just material shaped liked Buddha, it's a reminder/symbol of the Buddha, nothing more.
I hope you don't mind my little joke. I kinda ran with it.

Find the nearest Buddhist Temple & donate the statue to the Temple. Look around for Buddhist meditatin centre & give the statue to them. Alternatevely advertise in a local paper.

an old budist saying is "if you meet a man on the road and he tells you he is Buddha you must kill him" I suggest that you do the same with the statue. In order for Buddha to move higher, he must die and move onto another reality. Destroy it in anyway that you feel fit.

I am a Christian but believe in respecting all religions. I suggest you find the nearest Buddhist temple and give it to the person in charge there.
The other respectful alternative would be if you can sell it to a flea market because whoever would buy it would obviously want it.

I believe that you need to give it away. Buddha is a spiritual leader, you can't just throw it away. Unless, of course, you don't buy into that. Then.........one word comes to mind. EBAY
