I work in a preschool (toddler class) were I change diapers/pull ups all day long. Pull ups have both advantages and diadvantages. As a caregiver, its easier to change a wet pull up than to change an entire outfit, however, the child doesn't realize they are wet, so they don't learn from their accidents.
As the mother of two little girls, I used pull ups, but wished I hadn't because I think it prolonged their potty training. They got lazy or were "too busy" to go potty, so they would just go in their pull up knowing it wouldn't be a big deal.
When they went to panties full time, I made them help clean up any messes and THAT was what go through to them. They felt wet (and didn't like it) AND they had to clean up the yucky stuff too (which they liked even less!) So my opinion is if your daughter is going to be potty training then go for the panties. If you are going to be going out and know you can't get to a restroom quickly, you might want to consider pull ups then, but if you really work at it, she should be okay in panties.
Just please, please, please, remember positive encouragement works really well. Please don't punish for accidents! I'm not saying you would, but potty training can be a very frustrating time for kids AND their parents! It will only happen when they are ready and its also perfectly normal for a regression! So if it happens, don't get worried, you wonderful little girl is on her way to becoming a BIG GIRL! Good luck!

I'm actually going through this right now. Here's my stance:
Diapers, no matter which brand you get, are designed for children to NOT feel wetness near their skin. This was the problem when I had kept my daughter in her Pamper's Cruisers and still attempted to potty train.
They do have pull ups now with a temperature change when they are wet. This worked AMAZING for my child. She quickly learned that she had gone the bathroom and hated how cold it made her that she wanted it changed NOW. Eventually I said screw the pull ups....if she can tell you when she wants/needs to sit on the potty, time for some training pants. It only took a few accidents and she hated it so much she would rather go in the potty than in her pants. I only now keep her in pull ups at night time or if we're not going to be near a potty for awhile.
My suggestion is try putting her in "big girl pants" and see how she does. She may just like it so much you might not be able to get them off her.

After having 3 kids and in the process of potty training 2 boys, my vote is for use of the pull-ups.
For my 3 year old (almost 4) we only use them at night because he just is not ready to go all night yet.
With my 2 year old, we use them all the time because using diapers is hard and it makes him feel like a baby. He like wearing underwear, but there are still plenty of accidents. The pull-ups are nice because they can pull them on and off by themselves (most of the time). This gives them the freedom to go "by themselves" and lets you know that you aren't going to have lots of accidents to clean up.
I would go with the pull-ups until she can nap and wake up dry which should be an indicator that she is gaining more bladder control. When she can do that, you could start introducing underwear....just make sure that she gets to help pick it out.
I hope this helps!

If she is going to the potty on a regular basis she is ready for underwear. Granted there will be accidents. But they will greatly decrease because she will be in her "big girl panties". My son didn't do well at all with pull ups. I believe he thought they were the same as diapers so he relied on them for accidents. When I put him in underwear he was thoroughly potty trained in 2 weeks

I'm using pull-ups with my 2 year old son, but personally I don't like them. We have been using them for a while because of his size. He's just too big and heavy to be diapering. My reason for dislike is that they really are a diaper that's easier to put on. We are making the transition to real underwear and yes he has accidents, but I think that he will understand better because he can feel that he's wet. Pull-ups don't teach them that feeling.

Did not use pull ups. I had heard from other parents that underwear was best to use. Let her pick out her own. Granted she will still have accidents, but that's how they learn. Two is definitely a good age for potty training so be patient. Sounds like it's working well for her so I would suggest the underwear. You can always get a waterproof mattress pad for the bed so that'll help too.

My daughter went to regular panties on day one of potty training. She learned from her "accidents." I agree pullups are too much like diapers. How can a child tell the difference and not go in them?

I've always been against pull-ups. Kids have long been potty-trained without them. I would switch directly to panties. Pull-Ups are confusing. Telling her Pull-Ups are for big girls when they look just like diapers to her is confusing. They look and feel the same to a young child. Panties look and feel different.

I never used pull-ups on my first two children (potty training the third right now)....i believe they are an excuse for them to have accidents. I'd much rather change their clothes many times a day. You could try her in big girl panties a few hours a day, when you are available to remind her to go potty...she will still have accidents, but it's better than using the pull-ups....good luck....she'll get it.

The only thing that worked for my 3 was a switch to underwear. Your Dr. is right, it tends to prolong the process. One of my daughters peed once and never had an accident again. My son, I was doing a LOT of laundry. Sounds like your child just needs that little boost and some fancy princess or Dora panties will probably do the trick. They don't want to wet their beautiful new panties! Good Luck
