You know no matter what kind of dog you decide to get, you should adopt, or go to an animal rescue shelter. As far as biting, running away, and barking, you can train them or take them to obedience class. Not sure about shedding, unless it's a poodle. Good luck and have your pet spayed or neutered to avoid unwanted puppies!

Pugs shed a lot. And they do run, mine wants to be in the action and will try to run to any people or other dog he sees.
I would look into getting an adult dog. I think puppies bark and bite more than adults do, my pug is a puppy and he play bites.

How about a little terrier mix. They are great with kids, don't bark that much, they do shed, but not that much. They have great little temperments. I like the mixed breeds because they tend to not have some of the annoying habits that some full bred dogs do.Good luck with whatever breed you choose.

Look at the AKC website to get recommendations. There are so many wonderful breeds out there. Small dogs have such big personalities its important to find one that matches your lifestyle. Not all small dogs are great with kids, not all small dogs are content to be lap dogs, some were bred to be hunters. So, check the website and do some serious research. Good luck!

Of all the small dogs I've ever met the only one that fits that discription is my Brother's Cairn Terrier, But she digs. She doesn't shed much, has never bitten anyone or has never run away. Westies are also fun little dogs, but they like to be the comedians

Buy a Shih Tzu. They do not require a lot of exercise. They do not shed a lot, but you must spend at least 35 minutes to groom them every day. From my experience, most shih tzus do not bark a lot or bite.
