I have 2 dogs and each weighs about 40-50 pounds. They've lived outdoors their whole lives, but when winter comes around, it's hard for them. We purposely bought one large doghouse so that they could cuddle together (like in 1997). Of course, when it was cold we brought them inside...but we cannot keep dogs indoors. What would be the warmest dog house that's within the range of $50-$100?? Based on you and your dogs' experiences can you tell me what is the warmest doghouse? Thanks.

I know that they build some doghouses that are insulated and even some that you can hook a heater to (but that sounds dangerous to me). I'm not sure that either of those are in your price range.

If your dog house is big enough for them, you might want to just think about adding cedar chips for warmth during the winter, putting a flap over the entrance (car mats or carpet remnants can work for this) and raising the house up off the ground if it's a wooden house on the ground. (This discourages a wet floor and rot.)

The cedar chips can really help the pups stay warm. Also think about where you put the house in your yard because it's warmer on the South and West sides and try to face the door into one of the sides of the house (just a foot or two away) to discourage wind entering the dog house. Good luck!

If you still have the dog house you can insulate it, there is a type of instation that is for wraping hot water tanks, it can be stapled inside the house. A draft proof door will help keep it warm too. As for bedding the only thing that'll keep them warm is straw. Blankets freeze! So insulate the dog house, get a good door and straw and your dogs will be fine for the winter. It would also help if they didn't come inside, because the change from the warm air to the cold air will cause the dogs to start to shed their winter coats.

Though pits aren't cold weather dogs, it is possible to but a warmer blanket. Petsco has a sale on a few different types. Hope this helps!

My dad built a very large dog house for our dog. It was great she had a lot of room during all seasons, and was very comfortable, we had blankets and quilts during cooler months.
The dog house was in a large fenced area so she was able to get exercise, when she was in her Palace!

Find a carpenter to build the type of dog house you think would be large enough for your two dogs.

I can tell you those Igloo dog houses are VERY warm. We have two for our Newfies, but they will not sleep in them as they are too warm!!! They prefer the more "drafty" design of our older more open one.

You could still keep that one and put a dog bed and some blankets and save MONEY.
