It makes their "smarts" pretty useless doesn't it? Intelligence without common sense is pretty much worthless as well. The fact is most people are not intelligent...not even close. The problem lies in the fact that they think they are smart. Especially when someone who is equally unintelligent comes by and tells them so!
It is easier to be selfish, prideful, egotistical, vain, etc.,.then it is to help someone. Who cares about anyone, but myself, kind of attitude. That is the sad state of the world we live in today. What can you do for me, instead of the other way around.

Well, it depends on the situation. If a person is just becoming a genius and locking themselves in their room all day, there's no harm in that. But if their going to become mad scientists or something, that could cause a problem. Another thing is, you don't have to be smart to help people. You just have to have a heart.

There is no purpose to intelligence without a living being directing that intelligence. Each person is able to choose thier own way in which to employ that intelligence, some are selfish and choose not to share, others share with only thier own kind, and still others use thier intelligence to help not just people... but all living beings on this planet. It is egotistical in the extreme to state that thier is no purpose to intelligence unless it is used to help other people.... Humans are not the only life on this planet and intelligence is not reserved solely for us...
I myself use my intelligence to relieve human ignorance about animals in the hopes of saving those animals AND teaching people about them. I use it to help animals not people, that is how I choose to direct my intelligence and that is my right. Anyone in this world is allowed to use thier brain for whatever purpose they may wish, and there is nothing wrong with that! Each to his own. The purpose of intelligence varies with each individual.

You can't help people, but you can help yourself.
YOu can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink!
You, on the other hand, if you are thirsty drink up a lake!
People want to be stupid
Ignorance is bliss
Otherwise why do people here at Y/A complain about long questions and long answers.
YOu can't transfer knowledge with one word or one sentence.

A truly smart (intelligent) person DOES help humanity. It is the ones that do not know as much as they are given credit for knowing, that only wants to help themselves.

Not all people learn from others. Sometimes people have to undergo an experience themselves for them to learn.
Knowledge involves being smart.
Wisdom involves knowing when to share the knowledge.

There are hundreds of ways to help other people and maybe the way you help is not as clearly defined as other ways.
Maybe just taking care of you and your family so that none of it falls back on society's shoulders. It's not always possible but that's a way to help.
Sorry....I don't view suggested sites.

Define "Helping people"... It's all in the eyes of the beholder, I am sure even Adolph Hitler had convinced himself that he was "Helping People". Without knowing what you mean by helping people, this question leads one into a circular reasoning cycle.

Generally, the more educated you are, the more you realize that society works together through cooperation. I think that smarter people do tend to be more generous.

You don't have to be smart to help people it's the simple nature of integrity that people are not being taught by their parents.
