If you're still a teenager, I would say using products like Neutrogena, Aveeno, Clean and Clear, Biore, Cetaphil, etc. would be good.
If your in your twenties and above, brands like Olay, Clinique, American Beauty woould be great.
It is essential to find one that would suit your skin type like oily, combination, dry, acne prone, etc.
Spend some time at the drugstore or department stores, depending on where you buy your products to find a brand and a cleanser, toner and moisturizer to suit your skin type and budget.

I'm totally big on organic and all natural things. I have these all natural face cleansers and lotions that my mom orders for me. Man-made chemicals are bad for your skin and can create potential harm. Organic ones are gentler on your skin and have the same or possibly better effects.
If you wear make-up, a good routine would be to wash it all off thoroughly by the end of the day. It gives your skin a chance to take a breather for the day. Once in a while, you should also take a day off of wearing make-up.
During the day, you should bring those oil pads. They'll regulate the amount of oil on your skin so that you face doesn't stay too shiny and will prevent later break-outs.

As a general rule anything you use works if you use it on a regular basis. So commitment to a skin care routine is 80% of the battle.
My daughters use Proactiv, it's affordable and very easy to use.
good luck

HERES WHATS GOING ON WHEN YOU GET ACNE
we just learned about this in anatomy
your sebacious gland (your oil gland) is getting clogged, and this forms a white head. Well, when this happens in open air, it turns black causing a black head
THE BEST PRODUCT for BLACKHEADS and acne
Its been proven
is called ACNEFREE, it clears the sebaceous gland and dries up the pores. you can get it almost anywhere and it works great for everyone i know who uses it
it comes in 3 steps, but i also purchased the 4th step, called ther acne and blackhead terminator. It is prescription quality, but much cheaper
never mix products, like dontget noxema and clearasil

i like saint ives apricot scrub (it comes in different types for various skin types). use that every once in a while to exfoliate. and then use something simple like cetaphil or phisoderm on other days.
