Yes, absolutely. Its the same with any meat, except fish. Fish is so delicate it rots quickly. Try not to defrost the chicken all the way, though. After its about 1/2 defrosted you can break the pieces off. Put the rest of the chicken back into the freezer right away. The old adage about not being able to defrost meat and re-freeze it, is an old wives tale. Enjoy your food, never be afraid of it. Good cooking to you.

By the way, the bacteria another person said in one of the answers, is false. Any bacteria will die, when you cook or freeze food. This is a fact. Common sense says how can I live in a freezer? How can I live in a 400 degree oven? I cant, being frozen to death, or cooked to death is what will happen to me. Im not sorry for the sarcasm, people just crack me up with their silly fears of meat. The government, and political ads have caused the fear.Dont worry, cook, and be happy. I do! LOL

I honestly can't believe some of the answers I am looking at. First off, you cannot refreeze chicken after defrosting it, second, if you plan on defrosting the chicken the best way is to put it in the fridge the night before for the next day. Never run any type of raw meat, poultry or fish under hot or even warm water, bacteria spreads faster that way. And the person that said bacteria dies once the chicken goes back into the freezer needs to take a food safety course. But like some of the people said buy the chicken and seperate it at home in individual pieces. That works best.

ok first off, don't listen to anything hop hop says, NEVER defrost any kind of raw meat under warm water, it will thaw out just as fast under cold water, second, u can defrost and refreeze the chicken as long as it hasn't been sitting at room temp for more then 4 hours, but the quality of the chicken will decrease greatly, the best thing to do if u have to defrost it all is cook it all off, and what your not gonna use you can refreeze after you cook it, you can even just par cook it if you like

Just barely, I think. Don't leave it sitting out! Defrost in refrig, or nuke it for a minute or so. Just enough to break pieces apart. If it's mostly still frozen, you can put it back right away, and I think it'll be OK. (I've done it with no ill effects.) Just don't let it sit at room temperature. Also, wash hands, counter, and whatever tools and dishes you've used in hot water, to prevent salmonella infection. Enjoy! (P.S. I generally try to wrap individual pieces in aluminum foil before I put them in the bag, since I usually use only a couple at a time -- but I don't always remember to do that -- thus my experience with defrosting.)

SAMS Club and I'm sure Costco , sells bags of boneless breast fillets separately flash frozen in a resealable bag so you can conveniently just take out what you need for each meal.
Place them in a bowl of cold water to defrost, I know it sounds wierd but hot water actually takes longer to defrost.

confident, that purely isn't a concern. i've got worked in diverse diverse chain eating places, and a good style of rooster dishes are made this type. The foodstuff provider promises the rooster, already baked and pro, and then each and every of the chefs could do is throw it on the grill or microwave to warmth it decrease back up for the customer. Shelf existence of frozen rooster is approximately 6 months.

no, once it is defrosted you have to cook it all. If they are separate pieces in the bag, you might be able to just take a few out still frozen and just defrost them.. but it can not be refrozen once thawed out...

i wouldn't defrost it just to get a few pieces out and put it back because chicken can get bacteria very fast but when you first buy it you can separate it and put it in separate bags so when your only going to make a Lil bit all you got to do is take it out.

No, you have to chop it off while frozen. You cannot defrost and then refreeze it because it would jeopardize your health.
