I'm laughing at this question because I legally changed my name, for religious reasons, several years ago.
And, both my mother & my ex-wife are multiple personalities; now known as Disassociative Disorder.

A lot of names are titles. Butcher, baker, candlestick maker.
King of kings, healer, provider, "one who provides a way when there is no way".
I don't know what there is to explain about multiple spirits inhabiting a person???

If your talking about Christianity:
Most of the names are names that accurately and describe and glorify God, thus He allowed those names to go in His word.
The trinity:
Father
Son(Jesus Christ)
Holy-Spirit
1.He's a spirit, so He's not limited or confined to the same things we are
2.It's like a table or anything else;a table has a top, legs, nuts and other stuff that make it up.But it's still one table
God the same way, He has three parts, but He's one God.

Names represent power or position. Just as in a small town, one man might be mayor, coroner, fire chief, and local judge, so God can have several names for several 'jobs'.
As to your separate question about multiple personality disorder...
Oh. Right. That was the answer.

If the one person you're talking about is God....if you believe...there are 3 "spirits" manifested in the one God.
Think of it like...
one acts as the father
one acts as the a teacher
one acts as a friend.
All these are encompassed in the one God.

Sometimes it is when a person changes his name after have some kind of grand "revelation", or other times it is just a way of rationalizing discrepancies in prophecies.

As far as the trinity goes, I heard one Catholic priest explain that by saying that that it was one God or person with three different experiences.

You'll have to be more specific, what religion. The answer to your question depends upon which religion, because there are different answers for many of them.
