Yes - look at Yahoo Answers. There are plenty of people here who clearly do not grasp the english language. Aside from that, wander into any large city and you will find enclaves of individuals who only speak their native language. And finally, when a baby is born, he or she does not yet know any language!

Most immigrants throughout history from non-English speaking countries usually do not know English when the come here. Also children born of non-English speaking families may not easily learn English.

So in answer to this, I don't have specific citations for you, but if you go into any sized multi-cultural community in the U.S. you will find non-English speaking people.

Of course he believes to know what is best for America. He believes that the ones that work should pay for the ones that do not. He believes that terrorist should not be called Terrorist. He believes if he goes around the world and tells everyone we have been bad and we are so sorry for giving them grief and money for their poor people when the heads of their empires piss in gold toilets. He believes printing money or borrowing it which puts us further in debt to China and devaluation of the dollar, our economy will turn around. He believes in leaving a nice legacy for our unborn if allowed to be born a very nice debt that will be impossible to pay. Yes, he has such a great vision of how the World will Love us again so we will not fear Islamic Extremists even if he allows them to come from Guantanamo. He believes we should all be equal in the sense of life and no one will ever again have to push themselves for the American Dream. Yes, he is "Remaking America" into a more divided country so he can conquer it and be our Dictator.

Yes, not everyone in America speaks English:

Most Latin American speaks Spanish

Brazilian speak Portuguese

Haitian, Quebecois, French Guyana, and French Antilles speak French

Dutch Antilles speak Dutch.

People can speak English as a second language though (like me).

i agree with mitch except for the baby, they hear you inside the womb, they do know language when they come out of the womb.
also - walk into any school in a metropolitan area (i'm sure any school anywhere in the US also, but since i've only lived in big cities i'll stick with what i know) and you will find a plethera of kids speaking improper english. hell - even i don't speak english properly. it's funny, most of the people who speak english properly (oxford english) it's their second language. it's like taking a spanish class - you learn the proper way to say it and everyone looks at you like you're wierd because you're talking like their grandmother.

Actually, about 75% of true Americans still don't know English...take you for example, that isn't a proper "English" sentence you wrote, and to top it off, English is always spelled with a capital "E", and the beginning of a sentence starts with a capital letter, not lowercase, and quotation marks go after exclamation marks (ex: "Hi!"...)SO! in answer to your question, no, not everyone knows proper English, you just proved it in your own question.

Go to your local Mexican restaurant (or most any restaurant for that matter) and ask this question to one of the dishwashers.
That will prove the point.
