What are you talking about? It doesn't work that way round, at all. Employers don't pay damages if their employees assault members of the public.
The Chuch argues it is desrving of more funding as a result of such cases because if it weren't for them it wouldn't be wrong in the first place.

I read a statistic that said more children were sexually abused by public school teachers than by priests by an overwhelming factor.

Not sure, but no matter how much it is, it wont be enough. This is only the tip of the ice berg, and I'll bet even money that there are plenty of cases that still haven't come to light.

Doctors
Preachers
Daycare facilities
Hospital Orderlies
Rabbi's
Gov't employees
Fathers
Mothers
Brothers
I think you get the idea. There are many so lets not judge only priests. We are not to judge.
