I have accepted payments 4 times..Once it worked, the other 3, I got stiffed..So, you have to understand the reasons that they say No..I will hold a dog for the person until payments are complete, though..IF they seem to be an excellent home for the pup.

It never hurts to ask, though...I am planning on allowing payments for one of my pups, now...as it will be THE perfect home and situation for the dog...working as a elementary school counselor's therapy dog..

It is up to the breeder. Usually it is not done because if you wind up returning the dog because you couldn't make the payments they will be stuck with a dog that isn't as cute as the pup they were originally selling (assuming you bought it as a pup), may not be in good condition, and has passed those critical early days when training and socialization are so important. They have no way of knowing whether you allowed the dog to learn bad habits or pick up any diseases so they are at a disadvantage when the try to resell the dog. One way to make payments on a dog safely is to arrange the deal with a breeder before the pup is born. I've personally done this and it worked out fine. We arranged to purchase a pup of a certain bloodline, sex, and type and it was fully paid for by the time a litter was born. Since we did this we had the choice of pick of the litter and if we didn't really like the pups we could have pick of the next litter.

I have only accepted payments on a puppy ONCE. It worked out and all was well, but I NEVER make it a habit!!!! Most of the time, the breeder gets stiffed!!!!

If you do not have the money to pay for the pup, how do you show the breeder you have enough money to take care of it?????

You know, I get sick of these self righteous "how can you take care of the dog now if you have to make payments on it?" statements.

It's just like with adoption. My husband and I could not pay $10,000 + up front, in full, for a domestic adoption, but yet, we have no financial problems taking care of the children's needs on the day to day basis (we adopted through the DHS foster care system and it's going great!)...and THAT'S what should be looked at.

Best I can say is make that monthly payment you intend to pay on a dog, and pay "yourself" in an envelope, or put it into a savings account...then, when you're ready, you'll have the money ready.

Don't you think that's up to the breeder? And if you can't pay for your dog now, what will you do in the future? Your dog will need many things that you will have to pay for including vets when it gets sick. Make sure you can afford this dog BEFORE you buy it!!

usually dog breeders want it paid in full . to assure they will have the money. you need to have a written agreement between you and the breeder to make monthly payments , it is the breeders right to want money paid in full.
