Currently it is 6 hours. At other times it is 5. When we change the clocks for daylight savings time, they don't. So when we set our clocks back an hour, they'll be 5 hours behind us again. I have absolutely no idea why. All I know is right now Hawaii is 6 hours behind us east coasters.

As of 2 AM on October 29, 2006 - 5 hours - the other poster is in error since there is 3 hours difference between PST and EST - not 4.
As of 2 AM on March 11, 2007 - 6 hours

Hawaii is 2 hours behind PST (Pacific Standard Time) and 4 hours behind EST (Eastern Standard Time).
As I write this answer, the current time in Virginia would be 5:44PM and it is currently 11:44 AM in Hawaii.
Take a look at this time zone map for more information:

More or less the same, at least that is my experience. I've only spent a longer duration in Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio and Florida. I did find that Mainers were on average a lot ruder than Floridians. I did love Maine though, because of the seclusion. As far as Jobs are concerned, there wasn't very much for me in Maine outside of factory work or tourist work. Florida has offered a lot more.
