I've heard it said that it is related to the murders of the Knights Templar (which supposedly happened on Friday the 13th) but have no idea if it's accurate.

I think Friday the 13th is a lucky day. That's because other people are walking around expecting bad luck. They are not taking advantage of all the good luck that is floating around. So there's more there for me to enjoy.
Oh one more thing - all these stories about the Knights Templar or the crucifiction are not true. Nobody really knows the origin of the Friday the 13th superstition.

Even I, as an unbeliever and non superstitious person, have heard that:
13 was the number of people at the Last Dinner
and
Friday is when Jesus died.
Of course, I don't buy it, but that's what tradition claims. What surprises me is that in some places (Spain, Greece, and some Latin American countries, for instance) the unlucky day is supposed to be Tuesday the 13th, not Friday the 13th.

On October 13, 1307 the pope issued a demand to round up most of the Knights Templars. They were arrested by Phillipe the Fair. They were interrogated, tortured, and some killed.

I don't believe in luck, so I took little notice. It was a great Friday, but most Fridays are.

It was the day when the king of France rounded up the Knights Templar, and executed them.

Sure, that's the superstition, but wasn't that two days ago? So your question is a bit late, sorry.
