Some dogs mount when they're excited or over-stimulated. Too much petting or grooming, or the arrival of guests, can trigger the behavior—especially in young un-fixed dogs—and serves as a release for pent-up energy or anxiety. If the excited dog can't find an animate partner, he may seize on a fluffy slipper, wadded-up blanket, throw pillow, plush toy, or people..

Since mounting is most common in intact dogs, the first step is to spay or neuter the animal. Studies show that one-third of dogs experience a rapid decline in mounting and another one-third experience a gradual decline in mounting after being neutered or spayed

For the dog who gets too easily aroused, limit petting and grooming sessions to a level she can tolerate. If it's a problem of pent-up energy, increase the intensity of your dog's exercise regimen. If it's the excitement of visitors that sends your dog over the edge, confine her during arrivals and bring her out after things have settled down a bit. Better yet, teach her a rock-solid sit and stay, and reward her with a high-value treat when she complies. After all, one can't mount and sit at the same time...

When dogs hump things (unless they are breeding) they are telling who ever is being hummped that they are the boss and the leader of the pack. She needs to stop this behavor because you are the owner and the BOSS!!! Look into obedience training, not only will it make her a better dog it'll be fun too!

My female does that when she's going through her cycle. She's young and instinctive and doesn't really know any better. I would imagine the same about your dogs.

Mounting (when one dog places his paws and chest on the hindquarters of another dog) is a normal and very common canine behavior. In most cases, it is NOT a sexual behavior. In young puppies, it is a play behavior. In older dogs, it is a method of communication, and the dog who is mounting the other dog is generally displaying dominance
