Human trafficking 'guard' gets 4.5 years

The last defendant convicted for his role as a guard of illegal immigrants in a smuggling for ransom case has been sentenced to more than 4 1/2 years in prison.

Vincente Paredes-Ariza, 26, of Mexico, was sentenced today to 55 months in federal prison on hostage-taking charges.

Paredes-Ariza is one four defendants charged and convicted for acting as guards over other foreign nationals smuggled into the United States by an organization operated by Cupertino Delgado-Miranda, 32, of Mexico.

Paredes-Ariza and three co-defendants, who had been smuggled into the United States, chose to pay off their smuggling debt by working as guards for Delgado-Miranda, the fifth defendant charged in the case.

The investigation that eventually led to the indictment of all five defendants began on July 30,2005, after a female hostage, who had been sexually assaulted escaped at a residence in the 2100 block of William T

Ok Annie,

When I send this, I will disable my email because I get a lot of BS, as you can imagine. I would not have disrespected you if you hadn't started it by saying that I was a 'piece of s hit'. Ok? Someone attacks me, I attack back. Another thing, why do you claim Mexico as your country? You live here, right? This is the problem I have with Mexicans, in general. They come over here and leech off of us, don't pay taxes and claim all this loyalty to a country that does nothing for them. Their own country tries to get rid of them. If you are going to live here, your loyalty should be to the U.S.

I also noticed that after you opologized, you still disrespected me. Maybe you weren't taught any better. I don't know. AT any rate, I hope you see how it works now. You play nice, so will I.

I don't know how many times I can answer this-

This case calls for a particularly subtle blend of psychology and extreme violence.

I'll gladly make the pop corn while they give the offenders the chair. Or throw them to the real coyotes they need food too. And the bones will entertain them for hours.

Woman spared jail time for having sex with animal
by Keith Gushard
Special to The Herald

MEADVILLE — A New Airy woman has been spared possible jail time for having sexual intercourse with an animal.
Tina L. Smith, 35, of North Carolina, was accepted into Crawford County Court’s accelerated rehabilitative disposition program Friday by Judge John Spataro for the sexual intercourse with an animal charge.
The ARD program offers first-time offenders the opportunity to be rehabilitated and move through the legal system quicker. Offenders are placed on probation, ordered to pay court costs and fees, and may have other conditions placed on them. After successful completion of the program, a person’s record is expunged.
Smith was ordered to serve 12 months probation, pay a $150 administrative fee and court costs, and undergo mental health and drug and alcohol evaluations.
Smith was facing up to a maximum of two years in jail and a $5,000 fine if she would have gone to trial and been convicted.
“Anybody involved with this type of behavior ought to have a mental health examination,” Judge Spataro said Friday.
“I lost my job, my home,” Smith told him. “I’ve tried to get employment. It’s very hard with my name after the headlines.”
“We need to get to the bottom of why you engaged in this behavior,” Spataro said.
Titusville Police Department filed the charge against Smith after a methamphetamine lab raid on the Douglas R. Peterson residence in New Airy North Carolina.

Yeah, they deserved it. If you saw the game you would think so too.
