how effective is garlic for fleas on dogs and is it effective on the yard as well?

Im extremely new to owning dogs and know absoultly nothing about them and want to make sure my palmerianians are well groomed and flealess...thank you for your (helpful) answers in advance!

It's not effective at all, and too much garlic can be poisonous to your dog, although I'm sure you're going to find some people who disagree with that. It is good for keeping away vampires. Sorry, I couldn't resist saying that with Halloween around the corner and I hope I gave you a little chuckle . :-)

OK, joking aside, I use Frontline on my dog, but you can also use Advantix . It's a matter of which works better for your dog. Some prefer one over the other You can purchase it directly from your vet or , but I've also seen it for sale on the Internet and in Petco.

Advantix does repel mosquitoes I believe and Frontline does not. Mosquitoes are know for carrying heartworms, so your dog will also need to be a on heartworm preventative and your vet will let you which one is best for you dogs.

Since, you said that you're new to dogs, I'm also adding a link to foods that your dogs should not eat. I keep one on my fridge. Garlic is on the list.

Garlic is actually not good for dogs.
The best thing for keeping fleas away is FRONTLINE or PROGRAMME either from your vet, I believe you can buy the latter on-line now though can't be certain, if you see any fleas don't forget they get into carpets furnishings etc so they will need treating also, you can get sprays for this either from your vet or a good pet shop!

PS, Ease off the cruel 'ignorant' jibes we dog lovers all started somewhere along the line.

Garlic doesn't work, that's a myth.
I use Frontline and a flea spray treatment that I got from my dog's Vet as well. I also have to treat the yard and inside the house with indoor/outdoor treatments.

I agree about getting Frontline Plus or Advantage. (My opinion FP is better though). I just use this on my dogs and have not had a flea problem anywhere. If you make sure your pets are flea free, your home and yard will be too.

This is the BEST thing I have found in the last 7 years!! IT's called Fleabusters and it is for carpets indoors. (I have only treated once in the last 3 years and of course treat my dogs in flea season.) Also use Frontline on the dog. As for the yard, you can find sprays to treat your yard with.

If you want to get rid of fleas use Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution. Capstar works really good if you only want to get rid of the fleas for a short time. I have an 11 month old Pomeranian, and Frontline works extremely well on him (as well as on my other 2 dogs & 5 cats). Try getting something like Sevin dust for your yard. Just sprinkle it on your yard, spray with water to let it soak into the dirt, and voila! flea free (hopefully).

They are POMERANIANS!!!!! And garlic does not do the job. Either get Frontline or Advantage, or you will have a flea problem. If you use one of those, you do not need anything for the yard.

The best solution for that, that I have found so far is dawn dish soap you can spray it all over your yard too, and makes your dogs smell well like your dishes!
