Form from post-office, attach old disc and return.
They only refund FULL months and the last time I did it it took weeks to get money back (ten times slower than you are supposed to pay for it, isn't that strange).
You'll have to tax your new one NOW (can do this on-line now). But DVLA will not refund you anything like as quick (it's called: having you by the 'short and curlies').

Takes upto 4 weeks to get the money back , BE AWARE THAT IF YOU ARE CAUGHT USING IT THE POLICE NOW TAKE THEM OFF YOU AND CRUSH THEM ! You are given the option to get it taxed then pay an £80 penalty but if you do not take up this offer they will dispose of it ! I had a 02 mondeo taken from me whilst on holiday (it was taxed befor i went and parked on the road ) however the tax expired while i was away ( i knew this but though it would be ok for 14 day`s grace )and when i returned it had gone there is no such thing as 14 day grace anymore / i missed the deadline to get my car back by 3 days and they crushed it ! Declare sorn onto it now and do not park it on the roadside .

send the old tax disk to dvla they will then refund the tax you need to go to the post office for a road tax refund i think you can hand both over the counter if not post it.
it takes approimatly 3 to 4 weeks for the refund.
you cannot drive your car without road tax if you do then thepolice will know by your number plate and also not having it showing on your screen so while your there get your new car taxed.

send off with form fro post office. do by recorded delivery to 1. ensure it reaches them b4 end of month (refund is full months only from date they recieve old disc) and 2. if it gets lost in post you can claim from post office. usually takes about 2 weeks from date they receive it. ensure you fill form in correctly in BLACK ink. and take copy (scan tax disc and filled in form into computer) I always take colour scan of everything I send. (send to online email yahoo etc and send back to yourself so you have dated proof)
