Barksdale AFB is located in the Northwest Corner of Louisiana. Look at a map and you'll realize that there isn't much around it... but that can be said of the vast majority of Air Force Bases. Other than the entertainment of watching BUFF's Fly (which gets old fairly quickly) Patrick AFB is on the East Coast of Florida.... Sand, Sun, Tourists, built in entertainment everytime something launches out of the Kennedy Space center, but you are going to find a somewhat higher cost of living if you live off-base But I can honestly tell you that "you see one AFB you've damned near seen them all" because they are sited in areas that were EMPTY in the early 1940's, with FLAT terrain (less things to fly into and crash upon) so they really DO look the same for a damned good reason. You could be taken to most of them blindfolded and couldn't figuire out where you were without a sign. (or your own GPS)

I grew up in the housing just South of there. But I haven't been living in that area for years. A bit of trivia.... It was called the Banana River Naval Air Station in WWII...

It's near Cocoa, Florida and is the controlling center for Cape Canaveral Air Station. If you are going there you'll enjoy the winters.
