All of you protected, rude people should know it's hard to be able to stay here. In this guys case (being from Nigeria), he has to be here TWELVE YEARS to get a British Passport, 11 years for permanent residency, somehow I don't think that's easy. Yes, it's sad many need to go to this length to stay here, but a lot of people do and the government know this and just let it pass them by.

Mate, if you're marrying for the right reasons, you don't "need" anything. You should be able to stay here for 5 years if you have an EU spouse as long as you stay married to them. If you have someone in mind, they most probably know how to get this sorted. It's basically just sending your passports off to the right people and paying the right price. Best of luck!

Also, if you're a student, you should be given a 1 year visa to find a job here AFTER you've finished studying, then if you find a job and stay there, you could get a work permit. I'd advise this way rather than marriage because who knows? In years to come, you may find someone you want to marry for love and then you'll be screwed because you can't divorce the "fake" spouse until you've got a passport, or at least permanent residency. And that must be a hard strain on a "real" relationship.
