I know what you mean. You'd think that after two millennia of false predictions, people would start realizing that he's not coming back.

He is coming back and you just have to have patience to wait. The only thing is that he is not coming back in the manner that all of the people who believed in him will be. Someone is coming whom He said is his counsellor (angel) who will tell the truth about him and Jesus will have a new name.
John 14: 25-26 All this I have spoken while I was still with you. But the counsellor, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name will teach you all the things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Rev. 3:12 Him who overcomes I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write to him the name of my God and the city of my God; and I will also write on him my new name.

I read Daniel 9 & Matthew 24 and think something went wrong - seems like "Jesus" should've returned soon after the second temple was destroyed. Yet in 1 Corinthians 13 it is said that even prophecies will fail, but love never fails. Love is pateint, love is kind, etc. People get so used to hearing this at weddings - but that was probably not the intention of the author per se, rather Christian love.
I can't believe anything Joshua (Jesus) prophesied would ever be wrong, but it could've been recalled or copied incorrectly, changed, etc. Or I could be misunderstanding it.
So maybe you should seek after love rather than using one thing as the basis for discarding everything involving Christianity.
That said, I think Christianity has changed in some respects into something quite different than what was originally done and intended. Yet despite that one thing of him not coming back yet (and who knows - maybe it really is not his time yet), there are plenty of things and evidence supporting the belief.

Dear cantankerous,I understand your question and concern. It seems like something that's been around for 2000 years plus , would become part of the norm instead of people pushing it out of existence.Well as you have said,Jesus has yet to return, and the Bible says people would say just what you've said..Congratulations!!!!!!!!! You've just fulfilled a Bible prophecy!!
and as far as for the rich and powerful!!????? This morning There was a
Pastor from Africa at the church I attend and his people are NOT
wealthy or powerful in this worlds view....What do you think about that?????

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
Daniel 8:19 And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.
Matthew 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
It is in God's time not yours.

I don't think the original idea is a hoax. What the church has developed into kind of leans that way tho.
It isn't "for the poor." It's for everyone. There is nothing in the Blble that says poor=good. Most of the highlighted characters in the Bible were quite wealthy - at God's hands.

It's because God is unbelievably patient and He wishes for no body to perish and go to hell. He gives everyone free will to accept Him or reject Him.
One of the most important Bible prophecies that have come true within the last century was Israel becoming a nation again (1948) This makes all the other prophecies possible. Even though that was almost 60 years ago, it sure wasn't 2,000 years.
Jesus is coming soon. The question is, is He coming for YOU?

If hundreds of millions of people on the inside haven't found any reason to call it a hoax in 2,000 years, do you suppose your view from the outside might be a bit inaccurate?

Not me, my friend!! It is not a hoax, but some people won't believe it until their feet are starting to roast. FYI, Jesus IS coming back...maybe that will open your eyes...I hope so!

They're too emotionally attached to it. And it evolves over time, so, in a sense, Christianity as it was first followed has been deemed false. The Christianity of today is much changed, and it will continue to change as society evolves. Although it doesn't have much fact behind it, there are still some strong emotional tactics that keep bringing in converts. I do think it will eventually wane, though.
