How many of you believe that the miraculous/supernatural events described in the Bible are analogies with value?

Or, do you believe them literal descriptions of real events?

In Edwin Abbott's book The Kernel and The Husk, he points out that these events were recorded long after they happened, and had been passed down through oral tradition and songs--which probably exaggerated many aspects of what actually happened. I think they are real events, most certainly, but the miraculous end is probably a good bit exaggerated.

They could be

OK, Eistein says a brick can move upwards

That's science!

If that can happen, then Jesus can walk on Water

Surface tension

Maybe Jesus knew more about the laws of physics than we do!

Jesus ROSE the dead with a touch

A boyscout can do that today with CPR

Isn't that a touch

What we THINK should be a metaphor or symbolic today, could be physical reality in 500 years.

Revelations talks about the 4 horsemen

No one rides horses today, except for fun or horse shows

BUT

Oil is running out

In 400 years we may have to ride horses again, thus 4 horsemen of the Appocolypse could be REALITY not METAPHOR

We don't know

That's the FIRST reality we have to accept

WE DON'T KNOW

God knows all or at least most

MAN is millions or thousands of years behind

The GOD of today is the SAME GOD of YESTERDAY

MAN IS NOT

Man dies after 70, 80, 90, 100, 110 years

If MAN were 6,000 years old, how wise would that Man BE!

We have a book

It talks about raising the dead with a touch 2,000 years ago

JESUS said WE CAN ALL DO THIS

Today we have CPR

Jesus TOLD us something 2,000 years ago that is coming true today.

It took US 2,000 years to catch up to him!

Now, look at the Bible from that point of view.

Maybe God Nuked Sodom and Gomorah

That would turn someone to a pillar of "salt."

We don't know

We can only make conjecture.

Dear stacia,

The Bible says in Mark 4:33, 34 tells us that Jesus spoke in parables and without a parble He did not speak. Therefore, everything in the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, are parabolic in nature. ALL the historical events spoken of in the Bible did occur. However, the spiritual meaning is hidden in these historical parables. One may understand the morality or lack of morality in an event but if the "spiritual" or "gospel meaning" of a passage is not discerned, you have not come to truth.
The Bible is filled with "hidden treasure". That is why the Lord tells us to "compare spiritual things with spiritual" in 1 Corinthians 2:13. Understanding the word of God requires prayer, humbling ourselves before God, and following His study rules. When the Lord opens your eyes to a truth, you will rejoice and praise Him.
May I leave you with an example? Look at Revelation 19:11 and John 8:32. "Truth" is a synonym for the Lord Jesus Christ. Now go to Hebrews 11 and go through the chapter and substitute "Jesus" or "Christ" everywhere you see the word faith. "If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear." **I only recommend using the King James Version Bible.

I beleive they are literal descriptions of real events. Many of the supernatural things that happen are accounted for in science. One such instance is when the sun stopped in the sky. Scientists have accounted for the spinning of the earth and its revolutions, but there is one kink, and it can be taken back to the sun stopping in the sky. Also, there is a study of different dimensions that we do not understand-kind of like if someone were living in a two-dimensional world would not be able to understand three dimensions. This can account for miracles and such.

The scriptures---whether one believes in them or not----ARE the Words of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit. Just because someone touts the scriptures as being "untrue" or "supernatural," doesn't take away from their truth or their miraculous power. Just because we human beings---God's creations----want to deny Him, stamp our feet, hold our breath, and refuse to be obedient, doesn't make God's words any less powerful or true.

Miraculous---The fact that people even debate God (Yaweah, Yashua [Jesus Christ]) tells us that the miracle of our Heavenly Father exists and continues to affect every one of His creations.

Supernatural----by virtue of the word means something more powerful or above the laws of nature. Who created nature? God did. Everything and everyone on this planet is creation of God. He can,do anything He decides to do with everything He's created. Everything is His, anyway.

There would be no natural to have "supered" if God didn't exist, would there?

God created human beings to love and serve Him. We all have a choice whether we will do that or not. Obedient children are rewarded; disobedient and rebellious children are not rewarded. Very simple.

As For Me And My House We Will Serve the Lord---Joshua 24:15

Literal.
If this site were for honest pagans, they would admit they have witnessed supernatural events, but they are wise & secretive.
I am of Jewish belief, & have witnessed things that even many Bible-believing Christians have never encountered. I have even, on two occassions, been able to bring others into these encounters.
So, yes; I interpret Scripture to be literal.

Neither. They are real events and the miracles described in the New Testament are still happening for today.

God's arm is not shortened by time. His love is not stopped by death or personalities.

The brother's grimm, mother goose and the bible are literal stories about real life events.

Both. Is God the holder of all knowledge and truth in the habit of supplying complete lies and fiction to people and trying to pass it off as truth? People that think that way underestimate or just plain dont believe in the power of God.
