Don't know what Brian's on about, but the Linguistics program at my school required several credits of one or more modern and/or ancient languages. The course itself would probably be given by the English department, but it could well be an option for several disciplines, including linguistics and even history. I've never heard of Old English as a major in itself, but who knows?

English Lit. Don't listen to the fool who said linguistics, it definitely will not teach you how to speak Old English and has virtually nothing to do with any particular language. It focuses on the structure and evolution of all languages, and lingual history.

Probably English . . . it's typical to take Old English in an English major or grad program.

Linguistics might be another possibility.

A lot depends on what other interensts you have to go along with this interest.
